AL & AU #1 same year?

I'm not sure. It could have happened in 1971. Alabama and Auburn were both undefeated for the Iron Bowl that year. (Alabama and Johnny Musso stomped Auburn and Pat Sullivan 31-7 that day).

Well, we haven't technically both been #1 this year yet. We were #1 in the AP and Coaches' polls, while Auburn now sits at #3 in both of those. They are #1 in the BCS, which was not out at the time we occupied #1 in the AP and Coaches. We've both been #1 by someone's standards this season, just not the same one.

Alabama was ranked #4 and Auburn #5 when they met in the Iron Bowl. Bama jumped #3 Michigan to go to #2 after we beat Auburn and #1 Nebraska beat #2 OU.

I was about to say that we were #3 and #5, but the point was the same as yours. I will defer to you.....I'm going off what I think I remember being told, you may well remember the game and the situations. I was born in '72....

Besides the last poll in 1957, Auburn has only been ranked #1 in major polls in 1971 and 1985. We beat both years!

Except for the preseason one, in which Notre Dame was on top, Nebraska was the number one team in every poll in 1971.

I was wondering today if two teams in the same state have ever won a NC and a Heisman back-to-back.

No, two different schools from the same state having Heisman winners in back to back years has only happened twice: 1992 & 1993 (Gino Torretta - Miami & Charlie Ward - FSU) and 1967 & 1968 (O.J. Simpson - USC & Gary Beban - UCLA).

Thanks. I guess history is against the Cam Express. :biggrin2:

A point on the Heisman . . . Both Pat Sullivan and Bo Jackson lost to Alabama the year they got the award. Bo lost his last two Iron Bowls, and a strong argument can be made that were it not for a ridiculous number of good breaks ('82) and the intervention of Mother Nature ('83), he would have O-ferred against us.

Et tu, Cam?

History is not going to make a tackle or throw a block for us. It is cool to look back, especially when you have as much positive history as we do, but those things have nothing to do with what will happen on the football field this season.

I don't want to see Cam win the Heisman, nor do I want Auburn to win a national championship. Those things would help them recruit, and that hurts Bama.

So, here's to SNASS

:cheers2:

Hey if Bama and the barn are both ranked #1 in the same season and one falls to the other (BDS is the forest), does anyone hear it?

Of course, all the barners hear "Hey barners, we just beat the h*** out of you!!"
