These athletes are not the Sela Ward type of yesteryear. They are thrown high into the air and (hopefully) caught. Some have been paralyzed.

LOL!! I was thinking of Sela when I typed that! Cheerleaders have to be accomplished dancers and acrobats/ gymnasts nowadays apparently.
