D'Iberville receiver Kevin Norwood brings total package to Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Norwood has drawn plenty of attention from college recruiters. He says he's narrowed his choices to Alabama, Ole Miss and Southern Miss.

"They're all great programs," said Norwood, who said he won't make his decision until he's made official visits to all three campuses in January. "I just want to take some visits and see how they are, see how comfortable I feel there."

Houston back in business; Vigor running back added to roster to replace injured Prattville star
Houston learned Monday morning — just three days removed from a 180-yard, three-touchdown performance in a 50-30 victory over Russellville in the Class 5A title game — that he had been selected as a replacement player for this week's Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic. He reported with the rest of the Alabama squad Monday afternoon.

"I just came in and (Vigor) coach (Kerry) Stevenson said I got picked," Houston said. "It feels good."

Houston replaces Prattville running back and South Alabama commitment Jeodis Williams, who suffered an injury in Saturday's AHSAA Class 6A championship victory over Hoover. Williams became the second Alabama player to pull out of the game because of an injury, following McGill-Toolen quarterback Cullen Wacker's decision last week to skip the game because of a knee injury.

New NCAA rule will keep college coaches away this week during Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic
Blount High defensive back Eric Graham was hoping his play in this week's Alabama-Mississippi High School All-Star Classic might catch the eye of college recruiters and draw a few more scholarship offers.

Due to recently enacted legislation by the NCAA, however, few college coaches will ever see it.

The NCAA earlier this year banned contact and evaluation by football coaches at all-star football events such as the Classic. NCAA Bylaw 13.1.8.9.4 states that "all live athletics evaluations are limited to regularly scheduled high school, preparatory school and two-year college contests and practices" and are prohibited at "nonscholastic events, including ... camps combines and all-star games."

Rod Woodson was selected to play in the game but he can not play due to injury. He has been replaced on the roster by D'Iberville's TE Jacoby Bell.

ALL-STAR CLASSIC NOTEBOOK: Coaches find new NCAA rule open to interpretation
Most college coaches are steering clear of this week's Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic, thanks to a new NCAA rule that puts postseason all-star games out of bounds for recruiting.

As reported in Tuesday's Press-Register, NCAA bylaw 13.1.8.9.4 limits college coaches to "regularly scheduled high school, preparatory school and two-year college contests." The rule also specifies that coaches aren't permitted at "nonscholastic events, including ... camps, combines and all-star games."

Most programs read the rule as a straightforward ban, including Auburn, Alabama, South Alabama, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. But at least two schools took a different view.

Cordova's Tim Simon excited about becoming one-way player in Saturday's All-Star Classic
Some high school football players attract college recruiters with their potential. Others draw attention with production.

Cordova running back Tim Simon has been impressive in both categories.

Simon's high school career résumé — 8,500 yards and 130 touchdowns while leading the Blue Devils to back-to-back appearances in the Class 3A title game — places him among the best backs in state history. He ranks third in AHSAA history in career rushing yards, according to the AHSAA record book, and third in career touchdowns.

Mississippi Star QB Tyler Russell still committed to Bulldogs
Russell completed 206 of 314 passes for 3,284 yards and 40 touchdowns as a senior. The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder led Meridian to the 5A state championship, throwing for 243 yards and a score in the Wildcats' 26-20 overtime win against South Panola in the title game.

That win snapped South Panola's 89-game win streak and cemented Russell's status as the state's top quarterback.

There's no doubt he's the quarterback of choice for the Mississippi All-Stars. The only other signal-caller on the roster, Franklin County's Jamie Collins, spent Tuesday playing safety.

I've heard that Fluker is just manhandling everyone - that he looks like a legit NFL prospect.
I've also heard that McCarron's arm looks phenomenal. He apparently went down injured, but is fine.

Y'all are going to love this Rivals.com practice update from Tuesday's practices. D.J. Fluker looks like a beast and he absolutely dominated the first day at OT. A.J. McCarron looks very good early on. The three Mississippi WRs Chad Bumphis, Kevin Norwood and Pat Patterson are looking real good right from the start. The video below is like a Bama recruiting update.

At the end of the interview A.J. said that he expects Bama to sign Rueben Randle after talking to him. Hopefully he is right about that. It is a good interview with some good insight on McCarron.
Man I hope AJ is right.

All-Star Classic Notebook
-- KIRKPATRICK TAKES HIT: Gadsden City cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, the top prospect in the state of Alabama, left Wednesday afternoon's practice after taking a hard shot on the thigh, but he is expected to be OK.

"He collided and took a knee on the thigh and got a little bruise," said Foley coach Todd Watson, an assistant on the Alabama staff this week. "I think he'll be able to go."

-- MALONE JOINS ALABAMA: Alabama added its fourth replacement player on Wednesday, as Foley offensive lineman Estefano Malone (6-0, 270) took the roster spot of Enterprise's Jamey Fortner, who suffered a thigh injury Tuesday. Hamilton quarterback Josh Hollingsworth, Vigor running back Ken Houston and McGill-Toolen receiver Jereme Jones are the other late additions to the roster.

I watched last year via the internet, I believe it was on AL.com. Not sure if they are doing it this year or not.

Re: Alabama-Mississippi High School All-Star Classic (12/17): Team rosters and articl

Only Woodson out; Bell in
After two decades in June, All-Star Classic organizers rescheduled the game from June to December in large part to lessen the number of players who dropped out of the game.

Just like last December, only one player from Mississippi's original 37-man roster announced Nov. 5 won't be in uniform when the Classic kicks off around 1 p.m. Olive Branch safety Rod Woodson - arguably the state's best defensive player - sustained a serious ankle sprain in his team's last game Nov. 21. With Woodson unable to go, Boyles and his staff picked up D'Iberville linebacker Jacoby Bell.

"I think it's a big blow because Woodson definitely would be helping us down here, but I do think we got a great football player in Jacoby Bell," Boyles said. "I think whoever signs him is getting a potential superstar. I really do. I think Jacoby is one of those guys we missed the first time around."

Yeah, Fluker and McCarron are "showing out." I can't wait to see those two in a couple of years after some S&C. :)

Uncommitted players look to get noticed at Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic
The recruiting attention this week has been limited to a handful of small-school coaches not affected by the new NCAA rule, along with a couple of Division I coaches who interpreted the rule as inapplicable to all-star practices. Game film will be made available for other coaches who did not attend, Ladd-Peebles Stadium manager Paul Christopher said.

The recruiters who were watching had to be impressed with Lewis, who made some impressive catches Wednesday, including a one-handed grab over the middle of a dart from St. Paul's quarterback AJ McCarron. Southward has also had a good week, drawing praise from Alabama head coach John Grass and earning a spot on the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic Hot 11 selected after Wednesday's practices by Rivals.com, which described him as "vastly underrated."

Linemen Amos Draper of Tanner, K.C. Orr of Speake carrying banner for state's small-school standounts in Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic
Defensive linemen K.C. Orr and Amos Draper arrived in Mobile this week with the same goal: Prove that small-school players possess big-time talent.

On an Alabama All-Star team dominated by players from 5A and 6A schools — including powerhouses Hoover and Prattville — Orr and Draper represent the state's smallest schools. Orr played at 1A Speake and Draper played at 2A Tanner, both in the Tennessee Valley.

"I wanted to get a chance to show that even though I come from a small school that I can compete with these guys," Orr said. "I say it's a chip on your shoulder. They're wondering, 'How good is he really?"

Two players on the Alabama roster including Jamontay Pilson have been sent home for behavior...not sure exactly what. Pilson has been replaced by Jamar Travis.
