Fairly new to the board here, I've lurked for a while, never really post much. I'm originally from Dothan and two years ago took a coaching/teaching job in Arkansas, just across the Miss. River bridge outside of Memphis. Saw this story on the news here the other night and thought others might find this of interest.

Not anything new about his recruitment situation from around 10 years ago, just interesting to hear his take on it.

so, according to means, his coach got paid and albert didn't know about it? if a third party (not a paid agent or family member) got paid without albert knowing about it, how come the "i didn't know" defense wasn't acceptable?

My thoughts exactly when I saw it on the news.

Two things jump out at me as I listen to the video...

1. Means sounds extremely credible
2. Despite the prevailing opinion in Scamgate discussions, the FBI does care about PFP schemes

Thanks for sharing video link

That was pretty interesting..These slim ball adviser should do some hard times for tarnishing a recruits career..They're a cancer to College Football..An I believe Albert didn't know anything about it & it's funny how so similar sCam & Means Scandals are alike..Lets hope the Barn is punished even harsher than we were..

Because of the supposed Money Trail..If what's rumored is true..The Feds have more than a Money Trail by The Barn..The sCam Scandal will be lots bigger than the Means Scandal..

Because nobody at Alabama at that time knew it would work. :rolleye2:

IIRC, the IDK defense was acceptable, so far as the NCAA was concerned with Means. I don't think he was ever punished at all. The problem came in where the alleged payments supposedly came from Logan Young, an Alabama booster. Thats the reason given for UA getting thrown under the bus.

Exactly, Means was allowed to play at Bama but later transferred to Memphis to finish out his lackluster career. We got hammered, and we should have if all of the alleged things were true and were proven. My problem with the situation was that there didn't seem to be any proof, but we got absolutely hammered and embarrassed with the "staring down the barrel of a gun" comment from the idiot at the NCAA.
Cam's situation at Auburn was similar, but his dad admitted to seeking money from MSU, which should have made him ineligible. However, he remained eligible and led AU to a title. Now, it remains to be seen if there is anything that can be proven against Auburn. There definitely seems to be a lot of smoke coming from the Plains, so we shall see if there is any fire.

Everything else aside, I am very happy to see that Means has been very successful and is helping young people. Seems like a great human being.

I recall the same thing, Bayou. I also remember the Mean's family complaining because they didn't get their "cut". I'm sorry guys, I simply do NOT believe that Albert didn't know what was going on. These players that claim they just "left the decision" up to someone else are simply lying.

Thanks for the post....very interesting. Coachteague, How did it feel to strip Lamar Thomas of that ball in the 1992 championship game....;)

Um, because your misimformed? Look at SMU. I would suggest you look for the answer to that question before asking it. You may see corruption in color blind.

EDIT: PLEASE QUIT QUOTING HIM!!!

Lol...I get that often. George is actually a relative of mine though. One of the kids here at the school I coach in AR actually went home and told her dad, "the guy who played for Alabama in the old days of the 90s is my World History teacher"...LOL

I've had to take off my class ring from Troy U. many times to prove that (1) its not from UA (2) I'm not George Teague...lol
