Any updates on Tyrone Prothro?

Re: Tyrone Prothro?

Has any athlete had an injury like that and come back to play their sport again? I don't know of any off the top of my head, but maybe somebody else does.

Yes, his slow return is probably more from complications in or after surgery. Although horrific, players most often recover from hard tissue injuries. Wesley Britt returned to play with 300 lbs to support after his tib fib. Michael Bush just entered the NFL draft. A soft tissue injury is usually a lot worse but in this day in age can be recovered from if properly treated. Generally speaking Willis McGahee's injury would be must tougher to recover from than a tib fib, hes doing fine.

I think you might be remembering Marvin Constant, who was a linebacker.

Kerry Goode in the mid-80s blew up a knee. He played again, but was never the same. Members of the OFC (charter member here) still talk about his first half against Boston College and Doug Flutie in Legion Field in 1984.

Craig Sanderson at WR in the early Stallings years had to give up football after a second knee injury.

Tim Castille on this year's team might qualify. It was a shame that, for whatever reason (I've heard a lot of them), he didn't take a redshirt in 2005.

I'm sure I'm leaving out lots of others, but these guys were proven playmakers who either gave up the game or were never themselves after one or more football-related injuries.

AC was another one. i believe it was a stress fracture in his leg that would never heal up properly...BTW the same doc. that did his surgery also did the surgery on Prothro. Why do they not use James Andrews...the man is the best at getting people back up and running...

One of my friends is still at the business school and is friends w/Tyrone. My friend said that Tyrone is more worried about academics then he is getting on the field. I don't think any Alabama fan can have a problem with that. :)

Best of wishes for Tyrone. I hope he will be able to walk normally again. If he doesn't get to play college football ever again, I am ok with that. :BigA:

I'm no orthopedic surgeon, but I do know a little bit, and IMHO, there is absolutely no chance he ever plays again.

After seeing that play and the way his leg broke, I could not imagine that TP will EVER play again. It reminded me of , but looked worse than Joe Theismann's injury, and he never played another down. Sad, sad, sad!

Aside from the physical aspect of the injury there's probably also a mental aspect so if his leg ever does heal 100%, there's no guarantee he'll be the same player on the field.

My god I just got done watching maybe about 5 or 10 videos of TP in high school and at bama and he is just simply the best football player ive seen in my life. I honestly think he is better than reggie bush. All i have to say is wow!! And i sure as heck hope a miracle happens and he plays next year and just play as half as good as what he was capable of before. Hed still win the Heisman.
