Guys, wheres the info that Cal has backed off on him?? It seems like someone mentioned it on here and everyone ran w/ it... just asking...
Earle brought it up earlier. No one is definitely saying that it will happen, but there are some rumblings out there indicating that it could be a possibility.

All speculation right now, though...

Wow, weird situation here. I am so glad that we are out of this situation. I personally think KA is a decent person but his family is hurting him big time.

edited to ask: Do we still take KA is he wants to join our class?

They like Gill so much he should go to Kansas. I read somewhere that they wouldn't release Maynard to Buffalo, is that true? if so, why not? - the coach he signed with? Is that normal for a school to do? Obviously Maynard might not been telling the whole truth of why he left (or his coach wasn't) but why would they care if he went to Kansas (if Kansas wanted him). seems unfair of Buffalo if that's the case.

According to an article Buffalo so no to releasing him to Kansas. Usually schools do this to keep a coach from taking players when they leave. Just imagine how many CLK would have tried to get to transfer from UT.

True, and not many kids have a 5* brother to help them get a transfer to a better school, so they stay put...

As I posted earlier, according to Chuck Oliver, Saban cooled on him when all the craziness started happening. I don't think that Saban will allow him to sign with us now if he wanted. Too much questionable behaviour surrounding him now.

Yeah, I don't want him. Call me a jerk or arrogant, but I don't want a kid to come to Alabama after the way he handled things...I don't care if it was a Tim Tebow type talent.

Well good luck to him and his brother. Sweet deal if you can pull it off. What's going to happen though when all of Cal's recruits want to bring along a brother at signing day? Will they be able to say Keenan can bring his brother but you can't bring yours because he is more special than you. Or will they let everyone bring their brother and therefore play with only half a team of true D-1 recruits?

Whatever. Saban won with two full years of recruiting because he is a great coach. Now that same great coach has three full years of recruiting.

Meanwhile at Iowa State a team that had won just 5 games the prior two years, they changed coaches and had a winning season. I sure am glad Auburn didn't find that coach.:BigA::biggrin2::BigA:

There's rumors now that Cal and Clemson pulled their offers. If true, this could mean that Alabama likely pulled away too but it was masked by damage control from his people. Which opens up a whole new can of worms: what is going on around Keenan Allen?

I'm having a hard time with this scenario. If it's true, Penn St. isn't exactly the type of program I would expect to walk into such an untenable situation.

As I've said before, Keenan is a good kid. However, given all of the leaches surrounding him, I wouldn't be surprised at anything. There is no telling what those people have done.

Who said Penn State was going to take him? I'll bet you good money that if both Cal and Clemson passed on him, there is no way JoePa would take him.

From the Greensboro paper, posted at 8:15 a.m. today:

Allen’s choice: California or Penn State?
Wednesday, February 3, 2010

GREENSBORO — Northern Guilford football star Keenan Allen will decide between California and Penn State today on National Signing Day — and not Alabama, to which he committed in November.

Whichever he chooses, Allen is likely to have at least one familiar face alongside him.

Allen, rated the fifth-best player in the nation by Rivals.com, wants to play with his half-brother, former Grimsley star Zach Maynard, who left the University of Buffalo on Jan. 21 after head coach Turner Gill took the top job at Kansas.

The News & Record Player of the Year still had not made his decision as of Tuesday afternoon, but the national champion Crimson Tide could not or would not take Maynard and appeared to be out of contention for Allen.

Allen and Maynard had official visits to Clemson two weekends ago and to Cal last weekend.

Gabe King, a former Page defensive end, committed to Cal during the weekend, the Oakland Tribune reported. King, a close friend of Allen’s, started this school year at Northern but moved to Oregon in September after the N.C. High School Athletic Association declared him ineligible for falsifying residency information while at Page. King will announce his signing in Greensboro today with Allen, Maynard and former Nighthawks James Scales and Chris McCain, who have committed to Oregon.

Allen has accounted for 53 touchdowns this season and played strong safety for the Nighthawks but has said he prefers wide receiver. Rivals analyst Barry Every wrote that “it would be shocking if he didn’t play meaningful time as a true freshman.”

Penn State, which went 11-2 and won the Capital One Bowl over LSU, re-emerged on Allen’s radar almost overnight but not without precedent. Allen visited State College, Pa., where his stepfather is from and where he still has family, last year.
