Auburn wrap-up: Tide goes back to mid-year formula of success to beat Tigers

Great synonpsis. Didn't realize Auburn got over 400 yards. Strange game...never saw 400+ yards seem like so few. Defense did great, got stops and delivered field position.

On the flip side, Ty's 120+ yards passing felt like much more. Almost every yard on every completetion was very consequential. Not much fat on those 120+ yards...all meat.

1. I think the defense got tired because the doldrums on Offense and we put ourselves in the position we were in at the end of the game.

2. Not trying to hate, but Ty seemed like he was throwing knuckle balls a couple of times.

3. To beat Georgia we may have to alternate QBs with either Ty and Mack and come up with some packages with Keon.

They put a giant electro stim thinga majiggy on Ty during the game. He’s beat up, but he’s not beat up enough to lose his spot to a redshirt freshman in Jordan Hare.

I wondered about that, and am curious: How much of that was by design (to shorten the game), how much was coaches getting the play in late, and how much was Ty?

I don't know, but I'd like to.
I would think it is to shorten the game but it also leads to stepping off the pedal when you have the chance to put teams away...and I think it kills momentum on offense. Its especially apparent in the second half, where we barely score twice on many occasions...i think we are averaging less than 10pts in the second half in conference games...not good and keeps games closer than necessary

We've been apt to run the clock way down pretty much all year and it seems like it's intentional, because when we have gone fast (2 minute or whatever), we've executed it well.

the issues appear to be 50/50. Sometimes Ty doesn't seem to be getting the call and everyone lined up until there's only about 10 seconds left, and that's tight to have a lot of motion and adjustments going on. Sometimes he seems to have plenty of time, but is maybe trying to make one to many adjustments or calls to get to the absolute best play possible <or> defenses are baiting him into those audibles on purpose to force the issue a bit.

There is precedent to the situation we find ourselves in. That is, coming off a last second win over an overmatched AU team in Jordan-Hare, and about to face Georgia for the SEC championship. We were in the exact same boat in 2021 and 2023. And both times we absolutely had to have a win or we’d miss the playoff.

How did both of those games turn out again?

Yeah, I actually think the game is 50/50 but if Georgia starts to face some adversity, they may be more apt to take a few plays off with a mulligan to give. Not saying it will happen, but I wonder how motivated they can be once the adrenaline wears off.

A lot of that was on two busted plays.

It's mostly intentional, and it's not done to shorten the game, but rather to get the defense to commit to a strategy as the play clock is winding down, then we either leave the call in place or change it but don't leave enough time before the snap for them to change their call.

DeBoer did the same thing at Washington.

I think the helmet mics go off with 15s left on the play clock. The checks that happen afterwards are chess between the QB and the Mike LB. We were winning a bunch of those checks earlier in the season now not as much. Mostly because defenses chosing to bring 5-6-7 on every play whether we run or pass. Its worked because we dont run hot slants as part of our offensive strategy as much.

Grubb has not sufficiently changed his playbook to reduce stress on Ty if anything he has went the other way.
