Auburn wrap-up: Tide goes back to mid-year formula of success to beat Tigers

We've been apt to run the clock way down pretty much all year and it seems like it's intentional, because when we have gone fast (2 minute or whatever), we've executed it well.

the issues appear to be 50/50. Sometimes Ty doesn't seem to be getting the call and everyone lined up until there's only about 10 seconds left, and that's tight to have a lot of motion and adjustments going on. Sometimes he seems to have plenty of time, but is maybe trying to make one to many adjustments or calls to get to the absolute best play possible <or> defenses are baiting him into those audibles on purpose to force the issue a bit.
It's sort of the opposite problem under Milroe.

Great synonpsis. Didn't realize Auburn got over 400 yards. Strange game...never saw 400+ yards seem like so few. Defense did great, got stops and delivered field position.

On the flip side, Ty's 120+ yards passing felt like much more. Almost every yard on every completetion was very consequential. Not much fat on those 120+ yards...all meat.
The Boogs had 2 long plays. One for a TD and the other was stopped inside the 5. Those 2 plays accounts for a big chunk of that 400 yards.

I don't think I said that, but if we play like we did last night on offense this Saturday we ain't beating UGA.
Why do you think that? UGA has not been lighting it up offensively either. Our defense is generally playing better than they were when we played UGA earlier in the year. I think they will struggle to score against us on Saturday.

I think Bama matches up better against UGA than teams like OU and Auburn.

Idk if anyone else has seen Tyler Watts' reactions during the game, but he looked about as anxious as I was. The relief he shows after the final TD, the fumble recovery and final stop of the night are quite telling.

I liked the early season short pass plays and other short plays that moved the chains and ate up the clock. We looked good doing that. Should have stuck to it.
Yeah I don't understand why we got away from that. Middle of the field within 10 yards was wide open all game long. Instead we dropped Ty back and let him get hit.

I think the helmet mics go off with 15s left on the play clock. The checks that happen afterwards are chess between the QB and the Mike LB. We were winning a bunch of those checks earlier in the season now not as much. Mostly because defenses chosing to bring 5-6-7 on every play whether we run or pass. Its worked because we dont run hot slants as part of our offensive strategy as much.

Grubb has not sufficiently changed his playbook to reduce stress on Ty if anything he has went the other way.
Mics do go off at 15 but we still use signals and the guys look to the sideline for late checks. And Ty initiates some of them himself. We likely have an A/B in place and he makes the final change (and gets the info to Brailsford, who then adjusts protection). It's a delicate dance but we seem to get it done the vast majority of the time.

I wonder if Ty is checking out of the middle of the field plays in favor of the deep stuff, or is not getting called to begin with?

Also, a lot of the deep plays are there, guys are open; Ty has just been off on his deep throws for weeks now. The one to Bernard in the first quarter was probably a TD if it had just a little more air on the throw.
