Baker Mayfield Arrested

Some people like to waive off weed charges. Me personally, I kinda roll my eyes at "public intoxication". All that means is he was drinking, the bartender or someone decided they'd exercise some authority and throw him out, Mayfield took offense, and the cops took him away. I don't know why people just can't settle these things without going straight to charges.

Usually the problem includes the person who drank too much starting to run their mouth. Over 31 years I watched guys talk themselves into jail. A lot of times the guy kept on running his mouth even after I warned him... Next step is 'Party Bracelets' and a ride downtown...
A lot of players have a big ego, but so do a lot of young Officers. That usually doesn't end well for either of them. The guy goes to jail, people get mad at the Officer for hooking up one of our players. NOBODY WINS.

While I am very supportive of our police force, I also am aware that this stuff gets twisted. I won't judge this kid based on what we have read so far.

That period between 'crutin and Spring game. Next the period between Spring game and Fall practice. One calls it the Silly Season and another the Crazy Season where players get silly and act crazy. I will be all tensed up for our players till Fall Camp.

Ten foot tall and bullet proof kids (and drunks) have a habit of letting their mouth write checks that their butt can't cash. An alcohol allergy will break out into handcuffs eventually.

I could read this as him trying to help stop a fight as easily as anything else. In fact, the police never contradict that story in the report, so it is likely true.

In those situations, with a crowd around and everyone drinking, everything gets confusing and police officers are as likely to over-react as anyone else on the scene.
