Honestly, in some ways bad weather might help this team. I get the fumble angle but also imagine it would be very hard for them to tackle Milroe if we could get his running game going.
Hard to say since we almost never play in those type of conditions.

If he had a straight line breakaway run he might could score if the defenders are losing footing taking angles to get to him.

But Milroe also doesn't have great body control or side to side wiggle so he could just as easily trip himself up the way he likes to run east-west.

Probably the best matchup for Bama is PSU because James Franklin is the Michael Jordan of James Franklins.

Agreed. Also ND also has a mobile QB while Penn State doesn't really.

Honestly, with this Alabama team I would not be surprised if we make it and win the first game since we will have time to prepare and then lose in the 2nd round to SMU since we'll probably be favored and won't take them seriously.
That would imply that our Coach has not learned. Maybe he has. Maybe he hasn't but you have to believe that he wants to win a National Championship after falling short in the final game last year. That is why he is here. We will see.

Speaking of which... and yes, I'm wildly speculating/dreaming here, but could you even imagine the shocker of DeBoer winning a national championship in his first year with us after three losses?

There is the discussion of whether or not we deserve to be in the playoffs, and then the discussion of how we would actually do.

I believe completely that we deserve to be there. But going on the road to South Bend or Happy Valley in mid/late December? I do not like that at all.

While I have for years stated that the Big Ten fan complaint of the southern (SEC) team never having to play in northern and midwestern winter weather was a vastly overrated complaint, but I still understand the point. The complaint is overrated for several reasons. Namely, there are rarely games played in poor winter weather. The regular season has almost always ended the last week in November. Hardly the beginning of snow season. Yes there are snow games. They are actually not that frequent.

However, now we are stretching the season into mid and late December. Bowl games are almost always played in southern and western climates. First round playoffs are going to be played on campus though. So now I can agree that an SEC team travelling north in late December is going to face an environment its not used to. But it still comes back to talent, ability, and discipline. 2012 Alabama would have beaten 2012 Notre Dame at the North Pole. But I'm not sure about 2024 Alabama.

Back in 2011, the naysayers said that we didn't deserve to be in the national championship after losing to LSU by three points on a field goal. But we got in, played them again, and totally shut them out.

Yea, I am not worried about the first game, even in a blizzard. We'll be dialed in and very competitive. We will win that one. It is the next one that is the problem. Consistency has been the issue with this new regime at the Capstone. Hope they break that tendency.

Makes me laugh that teams have to rely on the weather to level the playing field! There are warm weather recruits on all the top teams...if thats your secret weapon then good luck!

Has anyone here watched a single SMU game? I have not
I don't really feel the need. They have an SoS of 63, Sagarin has then at 10th. I mean there's a reason a lot of people are talking about the possibility of them losing to a 3 loss team, it's because they're not that good.

Yes, they've generally handled business but with a cupcake schedule. I guess their big OOC game was BYU which they lost. Otherwise, they've avoided any real test at all. They have not played the other top 3 teams in the ACC!

So, we can't just watch their games to understand how good they are, because they haven't had a single real test. Clemson will be the best team they've played all year, and they're ranked 17th.

For the sake of comparison, Alabama has played #5, #7, #14 and #19 (committee rankings, and they are ranked lower because Alabama beat 3 of them). SMU has only played and lost to #18 and there are people seriously saying if they play #17 and still lose, that going 0-2 against top 25 teams is deserving of a playoff spot.

There needs to be an immediate fix to the madness that is SMU and Boise receiving 1st round byes.

I know it is going to change after this week's games and I know we are going to 16 teams in 2026. But conference champions getting auto-byes was STUPID.
I think you will see more parallels to how the NCAA handles the basketball selections for that tournament in the near future. The records are not created equal. Strength of schedule, wins against ranked opponents will count and games against teams ranked below a certain criteria get thrown out.

Agree with all of this but there is something to the eye test. You can generally still see certain things even against lower competition.

I gotta admit....watching a Bama game that's being played in the snow....would be something I haven't seen.

I hope it's not like the physics in the NCAA FB video games.

In the early 00s I would pick snow for weather sometimes just for the challenge and it was wild.

You'd drop back to pass with Brodie Croyle and it felt like you were wearing Ice Skates...lol
