Am I the only one here wondering if there should be a sticky FAQ to answer the gazillion "How do I watch the game?" questions that come up? Maybe I'll throw a little general information together and if anyone with the authority wants to use the info to make a sticky they can do so. Feel free to post corrections if I'm wrong about anything.
Possible Television Scenarios
Scenario 1: If the game is on a nationally televised network (CBS, ESPN, ESPN2, etc.)
- Anyone can watch the game through their local tv/cable/satellite provider
Scenario 2: If the game is the Lincoln Financial game of the week (formerly JP Sports)
- Check out http://lincolnfinancialsports.com/ and click on the "Affiliates" tab part way down the page.
Option 1: If your town has a local LF affiliate, you can watch the game on that channel.
Option 2: If your town does not have a local LF affiliate, the only other option is if ESPN Gameplan decides to carry the game. Check the GP schedule weekly for updates at http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/gameplan/schedules.
Scenario 3: If the game is on Fox Sports South (FSS)
- Fox Sports Network contains a number of regional channels. Check your local cable/satellite channel lineup to determine if you get the "South" channel.
Option 1: If your local cable/satellite operator carries the channel, you're set
Option 2: If you are a satellite subscriber, you can sign up for their "Sports Package" to receive all of the regional Fox Sports channels.
Option 3: Otherwise, head to a local bar that does have the satellite sports package
Scenario 4: If the game is doesn't fit any of the above criteria, it is probably only on PPV
Option 1: If you live INSIDE either of the states of the two teams playing (Bama or the opponent), you can order the game individually from your local cable/satellite operator. This will probably run you $30 or so.
Option 2: If you live OUTSIDE the two states of the teams playing, check the ESPN Gameplan schedule (linked above) to see if GP is carrying the game. Chances are good that they are. If so, you can order the game through gameplan.
ESPN Gameplan Specifics:
There are 2 ways to order ESPN Gameplan:
Option 1: Full Season
- The cost for this is around $120. Until the end of August they are running an "early bird special" for $110 I believe.
Option 2: Individual Weekend
- I think the cost for this is $22 this year. You will receive all of the games scheduled for GP on that Saturday only.
In addition, Gameplan can be watched in one of two ways
Option 1: On TV, through your local cable/satellite operator
Option 2: Through your high-speed internet connection on your computer
** If you order the entire season package, you will have to choose between the TV and internet options. You cannot switch back and forth. If you order individual weekends, you can obviously order which ever one you prefer for each individual weekend.
Upcoming Games (see above for details regarding each option):
- 9/2: Hawaii
- This game is on PPV and ESPN Gameplan
- 9/9: Vanderbilt
- This game is on Fox Sports South.
- 9/16: Louisianna-Monroe:
- This game is on PPV and ESPN Gameplan
