Alabama is a school with tremendous football tradition and winning mentality. The basketball program has now become a national embarrasment. Greene and Mitchell were given their opportunity and failed. Anthony Grant was also given his opportunity and failed. It has been a joint effort in underachieving failure. Grant was incapable of getting the most out of these 2 athletes. Greene first team pre-season all SEC and Mitchell preseason 2nd team all SEC. Greene departs next year and Mitchell most likely is also gone. That leaves you with this group we have tonight long term. All are 4 year players so in 3 years I can see this group making the Sweet 16. Although based on Grants history with players this may be a pipe dream if he remains as head coach.

Tonights loss even IF it gets close puts Alabama in a very STRONG position NOT to make the NCAA Tournament. This is a GROSS underachievement considering the roster that was assembled. IF your a true Alabama basketball fan GRANT should be answering the tough questions and not hiding behind hiis own failures to bring this team together. This is a lost season and PLAYERS AND COACHES should be accountable. Many posts here have backed Grant BUT he is the coach responsible for the final product that is produced. This is a very very POOR product.

This post is my strong opinion and Mike DeCourcy/Sporting News more likely than not feels the same.

Re: Anthony Grant...Inventory Should be Taken on his Status as Head Coach

It is very frustrating, but I'd like to give Coach Grant a couple more years. I think if our program is not making the NCAAs then, your criticism would be valid.

Are you Mike Decourcy???

Funny - I was thinking yesterday about how uconnhoops felt about this mess. What you just posted seems pretty irrational, and not really corresponding with your posts from some months ago.

Re: Postgame thread - Bama vs. UF...

So many things that I'd like to say but I would just be blowing off steam and Id probably just get myself banned.
But I will say that I am very concerned about the future of our program. I hope we get the ship righted.

Re: Postgame thread - Bama vs. UF...

I'm still OK. I don't think there are any other viable candidates at the moment.

I agree... I had high hopes for Grant but the more I watch him, the more he reminds me of Gotfried. Can anyone honestly say our offense is better today than it was in CMG's last season? Name one player who has improved under CAG? At a minimum, Mal needs to tell him in no uncertain terms, NCAA 2nd round next year is required at a bare minimum.

With the resources BAMA has their is absolutely no reason we should not be a consistent NCAA tourney team year in year out like UF.

Re: Postgame thread - Bama vs. UF...

I will say this...unless UConn has coached and won championships, I do not think he has a clue about what he is talking about concerning Coach Grant. For the record, when I coached, I had 2 state championships and one of those teams was ranked nationally.

Re: Postgame thread - Bama vs. UF...

If there was a better example of "basketball games are won or lost in the first 5 minutes of the second half", I probably did not see it.

Despite the first half sloppy play, and turnovers, we were in it. Until the second half started. Then, it was over, very quickly. At least they didn't quit. Just too big of hole to dig out of.

They D held them with few 3s, in the first half. Then.........bam! A few uncontested shots, more turnovers, and it was over. Oh, well.

Re: Postgame thread - Bama vs. UF...

Tonights game doesn't surprise me. We have no confidence. Coaches need to hit the road and find some post players. We know Green is gone after this year anyway and we have no one to defend the post and score inside. Gueye and Engstrom cannot cut it. Gueye could barely touch the rim. The guards were getting all the rebounds. Despite our poor shooting, I think we will be fine at guard. The post on the other hand is pathetic. Jacobs may pan out, but we need more. JMO.

I'm just blown away by our inability to score. I was thinking Lacey would be a lot more of a scoring threat than he has been. I just don't know, seems like we just can't hit anything. We couldn't hit sand if we fell off a camels back.

With all the revenue the football program is bringing in I have 1 name... Scott Drew! Think about it, he took over a team in 100% disarray with NCAA issues, players murdering another, coach covering it up etc. Baylor in no way, shape or form can compete with BAMA. If Mal wanted to he could write a $3MM check. We can out pay Baylor, have much better facilities, and have unlimited resources to build/buy whatever Drew wants.

Re: Anthony Grant...Inventory Should be Taken on his Status as Head Coach

I'm not happy with any of it. I honor CAG for pulling the trigger on suspensions but wonder why, in year 3, he has to?

Basketball is much easier to manage than football with considerably less players and the ability to change a program significantly with a single recruiting class. With that said, I don't think anyone would be wanting a football coach to stay at Alabama if in 3 years we were consistently finishing 7-5 or even 8-4. The Chik-fil-a Bowl isn't fun....ask Auburn.

With that said, I'm willing to hold out hope and reserve judgement on CAG for a bit more....but I'm not as optimistic and high on his product as I once was. Here's hoping CAG and this team turns it around and has people eating crow soon enough!

I don't understand how you think we're fine at guard while we're working our way into the record books as the worst perimeter shooting team in conference history.
