Bama vs. UF Postgame Thread...

Re: Anthony Grant...Inventory Should be Taken on his Status as Head Coach

Coach Grant is really an enigma to me. I though last year that he was on the verge of becoming an elite coach. Now this year we look like one of the worst offensive teams that Bama has ever fielded. I don't get it.
But all of a sudden, Mal Moore is looking like a genius for not giving him a raise last year.

We are all frustrated and rightfully so, and I realize Coach Grant is the person everyone holds accountible and he would tell you the same thing. But with some of the the things going on lately it seems some of our players need a baby-sitter instead of a Coach and we can not expect Grant to do that. I think we have one of the best freshmen classes in the country and believe it will pay off in the next year or two. I feel like we should give the guy a least two more years before we go pushing him out the door.

Coach needs at least two more years. No questions asked. Some of this is out of his hands, but some of this projects - the Swede, Moussa - need to get better and soon.

I say he deserves 1 more year. Can't say he deserves 2 more years. Thank God we didn't give one nutt or Shula 5 years....

Some of you guys need to realize that basketball ain't football, and Bama basketball sure ain't Bama football.

I don't understand how you think we're fine at guard while we're working our way into the record books as the worst perimeter shooting team in conference history.

You are correct as far as it goes and if we had 5 schollies to give, I'd say get 2 shooters and 3 post players. But we have only one scholarship as of right now and we are desperate at center. Otherwise, what you saw tonight is what you'll see next year. We had Steele playing high post because we had no one else. You have to have some semblence of inside game no matter how good your shooting is.

Did CAG's teams have scoring woes, in his previous

Is Grant running the same offense he did at VCU? Looking at the asst coach bios, it appears the 2 that were with him at VCU focused on D primarily. I noticed 1 is a player development coach focusing on perimeter players. His butt needs to be getting his resume ready for a career change!

It can be! If CAG is not the answer, their is no reason we can not go out and get a top notch coach with experience in major college basketball. The coaches at Marquette, and Baylor come to mind. We need to parlay the success of football. They can build on each other. Look at The U of Texas. As Mac Brown built the horns up, they committed to basketball with Rick Barnes and became a top 20 team consistently.

Anyone crticizing Moussa is way out of bounds, as he is playing early after knee surgery. He will be fine.

If you want to point, go out the guy who would have helped us win this game with an average performance, JaMychal Green

This is one of the most sad and totally ridiculous things I have ever read

Grant definitely needs at least two more years. I believe in his coaching. We do have a very good freshmen class that would have won at LSU an possibly tonight if they would have played all year without Green and Mitchell. There are combinations on the floor that have not been seen all year. We had an NCAA tourney team last year and got snubbed. We were well on our way to one this year and would be sitting at a 6 or 7 seed tonight if our 2 suspended "leaders" had half as much heart as playing ability. All this to say Grant will pull it together and overcome this. I'm as mad as anyone. Look where I live (KY) and what I have to listen to everyday.

It seems to me that we're finding out that we have 2 head cases for upper classman, 5 freshman, and a sporadic sophomore PG. The results seems to bear this out. It's not the end of the world, the sky is not falling, but there is more rebuilding to be done than expected.

Re: Anthony Grant...Inventory Should be Taken on his Status as Head Coach

For those calling for Grant's job-you guys need to give me a break. This team would have made the NCAA's if not for the incredilbly bad attitudes of Tony Mitchell and Greene- especially Mitchell. Yes, this season is now collectively over and it is a major disappointment. I keep hearing that it is year 3 and he should not be having these problems- Mitchell was not an issue at all until this year. Grant cannot be blamed for that. It's the perfect storm- upper classmen imploding (neither one is as good as they consider themselves), lack of leadership and some freshmen who are just not quite ready or a bit overrated (Lacey). My main concern is the lack of post players for the future-our two 7 footers will probably always be projects and I cannot see either one ever being a solid Division 1 contributor. And we apparently do not have any commitments coming in for next year at this time. Greene,Steele and probably Mitchell are gone after this year- that's 3 scholarships available with no commitments. Need shooters and post players. I like Grant alot and was really looking forward to this season- it is a disappointment for sure, but he deserves a chance to right the ship his way.

Re: Postgame thread - Bama vs. UF...

First off I respect the University of Alabama. My aunt graduated from the school. I am an attorney who grew up in a basketball family. My father coached a State Championship mens basketball team in the state of Connecticut. I practice Sports/Entertainment Law in NYC. CAG is underachieving. It is that simple. This team is headed to the NIT. Grant has NO control over his players. There is no mutual respect. This team had a legit opportunity to make a very deep run this year in the tourney. The ranking @ #12 or #13 was legit at the time. The team self destructed and Grant is the captain of the sinking ship. Its over...big disappointment. Football is KING in Alabama. Basketball? Not a bright future. I'm being honest and expect the mods to block my posts. I respect them for not doing that.
I will say this...unless UConn has coached and won championships, I do not think he has a clue about what he is talking about concerning Coach Grant. For the record, when I coached, I had 2 state championships and one of those teams was ranked nationally.

Re: Anthony Grant...Inventory Should be Taken on his Status as Head Coach

Our problem is we don't have our two best players playing. Mitchell and Green have been headaches and very huge disappointments, but when they're going right, they're two of the better players in the SEC.
Keep in mind I said when they're going right.
Our youth is incredible and I don't know what the answer is. Of course, we need some inside depth. Moussa blew out his knee a few months back and Carl wasn't playing basketball three years ago. We have zero depth in the post with any kind of experience and Florida exposed that tonight.
Every team will until *and if* Green and Mitchell come back.
I'd have an easier time blaming those two *Mitchell/Green for our team's demise with them being a senior and junior, collectively.
If they haven't matured by now and make the right decisions on and off the court, Coach Grant is put into a very precarious position. He can't hold their hands. He can only do so much and he's doing it. He can't just make TM play with fire or make JG follow the rules. He can only enforce them. That's what he's doing and our program will be the better for it in the long run.
At some point, those two have to grow up and be accountable. Don't know if it will happen this year, but if it doesn't we're stuck with Gueye and Engstrom and missing two ALL-SEC players.

There's no need to call for CAG 's head. I think he can coach and we would not be in this situation but for some selfish attitudes this year. He does need another good recruiting class. I think we've missed the NCAA'S again this year, but I hate to think we'll miss again next year.
