In my parking lot at my office in B'ham, I see at least three barners with their ugly flags flying from their rear windows, and some have been flying for at least a week.

The media hype has given most barners a confidence which in my opinion is undeserved and OVERRATED!!!! Here's to wishing Tubbs and his thumb a 7-6 season :BigA:

Here's my question to the people who are in the know. Is Birmingham truely an "Alabama town" like it always has been? I've heard of a greater Auburn presence there as of late, but wanted to see what people on here know. I noticed that the Birmingham News is on the scoreboard so I found that kinda odd. Is this no longer an Alabama bastion?

Hard to say. An unscientific way I gauged it one year was at City Stages. Lynyrd Skynyrd played, and of course, they did Sweet Home. A huge portion of the crowd responded with "Roll Tide Roll" at the appropriate times. :biggrin2:

I do remember in the neighborhood in Chalkville/Pinson where I grew up... the houses went like Auburn, Alabama(Mine), Alabama, Auburn, Alabama, Alabama.

From my experience of going to Iron bowls and regular Bama games over the past 22 years I have witnessed an astronomical amount of barn beaters in the city/suburbs of Birmingham. I even saw a shocking decent amount of the
booger eaters in Tuscaloosa while in school at UA. Typically though the more
apparent infestation lies in the Montgomery,Prattville,Opelika,Lee kneck' county,Phenoix City,Columbus Ga. area, along with most cities around here where I'm from in the Dothan Wiregrass area with Abbeville,Headland, and Enterprise. I know its only common sense that these eh hem citizens graduate
and go on to careers located in these communities stemming from barn happy face seals but they do seem to love to spread their stench across Mont. ,Columbus Ga, Atlanta and the Birmingham areas the most from what I've seen firsthand. I'll say this though I've been to the barn on the hill once and thats enough for a lifetime for me. Lets just say I wont be going back again even for the iron bowl thats for sure with my extremity of hate for them.

Heck, I hear just as much about them up here in Atlanta as I do Tech and Georgia. The sports station here is even the home of Auburn football...an Atlanta radio station mind you. Amazing what a little winning will do for you.

Roll Tide Roll !!!!:biga:

It seems that since the Iron Bowl and Bama football left Legion Field that the Barners are infesting more and more of the B'ham area. The western side of the city and Jefferson County are still predominantly Bama because of the proximity to Tuscaloosa. The northern suburbs, such as Fultondale and Trussville, are also predominantly Bama, at least to my observation.

However, once you get into the southern suburbs of the city is where they are trying to recreate the lovliest village. Homewood, Vestavia, Hoover, and most of north Shelby County can easily be claimed by the Barners. There are still some devout Bama fans in the southern suburbs, but unfortunately they are being surrounded and are quickly becoming outnumbered.

Hell, if you drive through any random Helena subdivision right now you will see at least three or four Barn falgs flying from houses.

That's because UGA is locked up by AM750 and Ga Tech is locked up by AM790. That left the only other sports station, AM680 without someone to cover. Since Auburn is geographically closer, they got the deal.

The station is still staunchly UGA/GA Tech homers. They'll rip Auburn at the drop of a pin.

Hoover-home of the Bryant/Tide penial envious PFshow proud member named "Booby"; in other words the one who needs to have his forked tree
arse kicked :biggrin2:

Auburn is enjoying it's best years in a long time right now, mailnly due to the NCAA and it's harsh treatment of Alabama.

Let them return, inevitably, to mediocrity and alot of the barners you see now will disappear.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear that the Bama fan population has dropped in Birmingham since we stopped playing home games in legion field. My guess is that a large number of the Bama supporters in that area only did so because it was good for business.

There's definitely more barners here than there used to be, but it's still no Montgomery. One thing though, barners tend to display their flags/stickers more than we do. It's not that they're better fans, it's just having an inferiority complex will do that to you. Just remember, next time you think you're outnumbered, that house or car you see without any flag or sticker could have a die-hard Bama fan inside it. :BigA:
