Baseball Strike Date Set

pathetic, weak bastards. I will never go to or support another MLB team and I live in Atlanta. If I make nine million a year I have no one but myself to blame if after five years I am Broke. I say fire them all hire scabs or replacements whatever you want to call them and make these primadonnas get real jobs like the rest of us who bust our collective hump for a living.

I agree with you guys - baseball is toast. I could really care less anymore. I've passed on free tickets to both the Giants & A's this year and you just won't catch me supporting such a greedy bunch of b_______!

I think that is after the North Texas game and before the SMU game, sounds like a helluva idea and pretty good timing to me.

This is why I think college sports are so much better than professional!!!! College kids actually care and want to compete. They put there heart and soul into every play.

Let them strike. They're getting greedy. I will not lose any sleep over it.

Will someone please send me a Guthrie's plate! And extra sauce!

I hope the owners lock them out, hire AAA scabs, void all contracts for non-performance and open training camps next season with all new players.

Sure only 30% will attend the games and TV viewership will suffer, but saving $50,000,000 in payroll can buy a lot of comfort for these hard times.

MLB is going to screw around and lose its anti-trust exemption...then it will be all over but the crying. I could care less.

Give me college football and NHL, NBA and MLB can cease to exist. I want NFL around because without it, our game would suffer...but the rest can vanish as far as I care. RTR.

I don't think -- no I'm CERTAIN -- that I will not lose a wink of sleep tonight worrying about professional baseball. I bid them all a fond farewell. And it just touches my heart to know they would never want to dishonor such an emotional period surrounding Sept. 11.

My buddy came down to Florida to visit over the spring and we went to Vero Beach for a 2-game series between the Dodgers and the Yankees. A huge throng of Yankee fans came both days, but the Yanks only brought 3 starters with them. One was Roger Clemens. Think that sorry sack signed one autograph, let alone tip his cap to the crowd acknowledging their applause?

I couldnt agree more. I was sick of baseball after the first strike was followed by the incident of spitting on the referees. The players strike for more pay, and they get it. The referees strike to end abuse against them and they are told to get back to work or they'll be replaced.

I havent watched a major league game since then, and now just reinforces that. If they fire all the players and bring on the minor players then I may start to watch again. But as far as Im concerned, MLB can go out of business.

When I was a young man and for the rest of my life, the first thing I looked at in the AM paper was the box scores. After the greed, strike, egos, etc., the ONLY box score I bothered with was Cal Ripkin. I probably will never bother to look at another. I don't even miss it. I hope they all go broke. Sad, huh?

I could give an ants' arse less if they strike, having placed MLB somewhere below the saturday night bowling league for most anticipated sporting events several years ago. What will be sad (and watch for this to happen) is if they don't strike, all the maudlin fans and sports writers praising them to high heaven for having saved baseball and allowing play to continue uninterrupted.

"We keep playing and playing without a deal"
Well you are getting paid you know!

If the players got their way on everything there would be two teams left, Atlanta and New York and a few playwers making 100,000000 a year. They need to wake up!

Teams need to share more of the revenue or have a salary cap. A lot of teams are going to eventually fold and the players will have to get real jobs.

it ain't the players, it's the owners and one only needs to pay attention to bud selig to know it.

IT AIN'T THE PLAYERS?!?!?!?! HOW MUCH FRIGGIN' MONEY DOES ONE MAN HAVE TO MAKE?!?!?! AND HOW IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK THEM TO TAKE DRUG TESTS AND LAY OFF STEROIDS?!?!? Holy cow, man. Get your head out of the sand. Or are you just towing the union line, like a sheep falling in with the flock?

Look, I'm not nuts about the owners, either, but the vast majority of them aren't making anywhere what they should be making considering the investment they have. I'll be damned if I'd invest that kind of money unless I got an extremely good return on my money.

Another thing that ****** me off about the union; when players get together and decide they're not going to play for less than they want, no matter how ridiculous, it's called organized labor. Those who support their view say the owners should simply stop paying the high salaries.

Well, guess what? They tried that a few years ago and the union ****ed and moaned and raised hell and got the legal eagles to bust the owners for "collusion."

Did you know that kids who want to wear a MLB emblem on their uniform have to pay a fee to do so? Holy cow, man. What's this world coming to? Kids, little kids, have to pay those greedy bastards to advertise for them and worship them as heroes. I'm sick of the whole thing, owners and players. But I lay the bulk of it on players. Pay me millions of dollars a year to play a game I loved as a kid and you can make me pee in a cup 5 times a day if you wish.

Screw 'em all. I hate the union, it's exactly why I can't afford a new car now. It's exactly why foreign companies can manufacture and transport vehicles for a competitive rate. It's exactly why I can't afford to take my family to a professional sporting event. The union and liberal politicians will be the demise of this great nation. They will bring her to her knees.

Punt baseball. And punt the greedy bastards involved. Especially those like Tom "I don't care what the fans think" Glavine. They can all kiss my lily white a$$!!!!!!!

I could care less what happens with MLB. I can't watch three innings of a game without falling asleep, unless I am standing up.

National pastime...yeah, right. My pastime goes from August to early January.

Too much else going on to worry about some guy making 9 million who wants 10 million. Only bad thing is that it will hurt the sunflower seed business, and I do love my sunflower seeds
