Game Thread: Baylor vs Oklahoma

Oklahoma has had a lot of consistency at QB the last few years and they're feeling not having any adequate choices available this season. I worry that all of our own consistency at QB under Saban could lead to the same thing next year.

Yeah, loses to Baylor and the behemoth that is Bevo..................doesn't inspire confidence going forward.

May the Bevos and the Zeros give their respective coaches long-term contract extensions.

I really haven't gotten to watch Baylor play. Are they legit, or an empty shell like Oregon?

Wins against Oklahoma and (presumably) Texas don't impress me. Those teams are nothing but big names in a weak conference anymore. At this point its like saying "we beat Florida!"

Oklahoma beat ND in South Bend. The same team Alabama beat for the NC. Did the NC game impress you?
Baylor held Oklahoma to its lowest yardage output since 2007. Very much for real.

Um, 2012 ND and 2013 ND are not the same team. 2012 ND beat Oklahoma.

And, no, BCS game Notre Dame did not impress me. We obliterated them and barely worked up a sweat.

Baylor has games against TT, OSU, TCU and shorthorns. Not Amen Corner, but no cakewalk either.
Mark it down now...if either Bama or FSU loses a game from here on out and Baylor doesn't, they play for it all.
Their schedule is (arguably) tougher than Ohio State.
They manhandled the sooners.

I watched a third of the game and followed the stats the rest of the way. It was horrible, horrible, practically unwatchable football.

Baylor and Oklahoma combined for 25 penalties. To put that in perspective, every team in the FBS averages less than 10 penalties a game, and both Baylor and Oklahoma bettered that. They combined for about as many penalties as Navy has had all year.

The big difference was when Oklahoma gift wrapped something for Baylor, they took advantage, and when Baylor gift wrapped something for Oklahoma, they went backwards because they literally couldn't just line up and run a play.

Looking at the score, it's easy to say Baylor did a great job, but Oklahoma did so terrible, and really Baylor looked so undisciplined at times that I can't arrive to that conclusion. It's easy to see why Ole Miss beat Texas 44-23 and Texas beat Oklahoma 36-20. I'd have to agree with the assertion that Baylor is Oregon light, and I'd have to see a lot more from Baylor to actually worry about them. I'd love Alabama to play the Baylor team I saw last night, it would have been ugly. I think Baylor vs. Auburn would be an interesting game though...

How in the world was Oklahoma rated in the top ten?
How in the world does Stoops still have a job?

And how long before Baylor starts selling "We Want Bama" teeshirts?

Since the Oregon shirts are Baylor colors, I think they're shipping them to Waco this morning.

Baylor's offense doesn't scare me, but their defense looks legit. I am interested to see how they do over the next few weeks, as they now have some serious expectations piled on their shoulders. That changes things more than most realize.

I did not watch much of this game, but Baylor has TTU, KState, TCU and Texas left, not really sure any of those 4 can beat Baylor now.

If the four left are physical enough to put some wear on them, the bears could get tripped up.

Oklahoma is a shell of itself.

No, they aren't a complete dumpster fire like they were in the 90s before Stoops, but that's mostly because the schedule has been so watered down with the chipping away of the Big 12. I don't know why this has happened, exactly. Is it that he's lost so many valuable assistants? Have they themselves been weakened from playing in such a weak environment? Has their recruiting fallen off over the last several years?

Whatever it is, it's not a good situation. I don't know that Stoops is any danger of losing his job, but I know that most Oklahoma fans are probably beyond frustrated. Going 10-2 every year sounds nice until you realize there are no conference or national titles to be found.

I watched parts of the game but I didn't pay much attention to how many players they put in the box. Oklahoma seemed like they were getting beat up front and Bell can't throw for anything. They have some pretty good offensive teams that could score on them. I don't know if those teams have any defense though

All I know is that Texas needs to stop pipe dreaming about Saban, open the checkbook and get Art Briles on Campus. The guy is one heck of a coach and single handedly built Houston and now Baylor.

I think it's obvious their recruiting is not what it used to be, but maybe worse than that they are getting soft playing in the conference they are in. The Big 12 has become essentially the 7-on-7 conference from what I see. Combine that with the fact that OU can't throw the ball and won't (or can't) commit to the inside running game and you have a recipe for ugly losses. Baylor's defense smoked OU and while they have a couple of decent-sized DTs, they are not exactly huge in the front 7. The OU of the past would have lined up and imposed their will on Baylor much like Stanford did to Oregon.

I have heard some raving about the Baylor defense today. For perspective, OU only got about 25 more yards on Texas than they did on Baylor.
I think people who didn't watch the game will probably be impressed with Baylor. But, to watch how inept Oklahoma was, to watch all the penalties on Oklahoma... let's put it this way. If LSU executes like Oklahoma did, Alabama will win by as many points as Baylor did. Sure, you have to give Baylor some credit, but Oklahoma was by no means a real test.
