Re: Best Places To Eat At T-Town?

It must have been a bad night at Cypress Inn. They are one of the most consistent restaurants in town. They have had the same ownership for years and Drew also owns the 15th Diner. Recently Cypress has taken over doing the special dinner events at the stadium in the Zone. It is an ubelievable improvement in the quality of dinners there and yes the serve the same muffins. I actually look forward to going to dinner events at the Zone now. A huge improvement.
Not to defend the management at Cafe Venice -I prefer DePalma's- but the reason they temporarily closed was for the sprinkler system. They have been on the same sprinkler system with their neighbors at Brown's Corner but the fire department wants them to have a separate system now.

From what I was told by a friend who worked at Venice, the management wasn't going to be able to afford the upgrades that would have been required, so they shut down all together.

Re: Best Places To Eat At T-Town?

Thanks Capstone-

I'm relieved to hear that because I love going there and didn't want to include it on my list of "places that used to be good". We only get to T-town during football season so I don't eat there that often, but always look forward to it. We had NashvilleTider, Jr.'s graduation party there and it was good food and good service.

The original Archibald's is my sentimental favorite. While in school I lived off Rice Mine Rd and spent many a night over there gnawing on a plate of ribs and sopping up sauce with white bread. Man that was the life!

Cypress Inn was always great food and environment, but in my opinion it's not a taste of the town type place.

You have to go to Wintzell's and get some oysters :biggrin2: /shameless plug lol...

Seriously, if you want some great pizza, try Tut's across from the strip. Also Buffalo Phils is a great place to grab some chicken wings and beer.

Prime Rib Biscuits from Wilhagens is on my top 5 list.
im allergic to shellfish

Re: Best Places To Eat At T-Town?

lived in ttown from 03-09.

Nicks in the Sticks is very difficult to find always busy, crowded, loud and the best deal on a filet you'll find anywhere, get there early and be prepared to wait outside for a while.

Can you give directions to "Nicks in thr Sticks?"
Here is the address, just mapquest it. The easiest way is to go down the Interstate toward Meridian & get off on Exit 68 onto the Black Warrior Pkwy. Go to the red light which is Culver Rd (Highway 11), take a left & its just down the road on the right.

Oyster Bay.

This place has the best seafood buffet, hands down. I hurt myself the last time I went there. The best crawfish in town, along with everything else they have.

If you have time to eat buffet, and have room in your belly. be sure to eat at Oyster Bay.

At one point, I thought Nick's was good. Then I graduated, got a job, and could afford a real filet. I'm not sure what those steaks are, but I'm pretty sure they are related to the crappy filets you see in the store in individually vacuum packed plastic containers pre-wrapped in bacon.

Nobody's saying Nick's buys their meat from Allen Brothers, but it's not bad relative to the price. If I got the same meal at Ruth's Chris I would be pretty aggravated, because of the price differential.

When I was in BHM a couple of weeks ago I ate at Baja Burger, they have pretty good sweet potato fries. I'm not sure if there are any in T-town.

Re: Best Places To Eat At T-Town?

I can't believe I left out the Cypress Inn. Maybe the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. They also have an awesome peanut butter pie.

In terms of BBQ, I only like Moe's BBQ, and Archibald's - in that order. Dreamland, Full Moon, et al., I'm just not that impressed with. I do want to try Pottery Grill someday, as well as Nick's in the Sticks. Dreamland's BBQ nachos at BDS are the only good thing I've had made by Dreamland.

If you want something a little different, I will always recommend Kuk's Hot Dogs, and Hooligans. Walton's in Northport is a good good chicken place, IMO.

Re: Best Places To Eat At T-Town?

Gameday Bar BQ - Big Bad Wolves
Anyday Bar BQ - Full Moon
Pizza - Broadway Pizza off of Rice Mine
Tex-Mex - Qdoba on the strip
Sports Bar - Phil's
Newk's is very good. Their pizzas are good along with the chicken club.

Waysider is very overrated.

Don't forget RammaJammas, that place is still there and are right off of Paul W. Bryant Drive on the east side BDS. I ate there a few years back.
