Yes I'm an OF and remember Mike Mathis very well! big #44! It was a sad all over when I woke up that Sat am and heard on the radio that a UA football player had drowned. I really thought he was going to be a hoss for Coach Bryant.

I'll add Mario Morris and soon to be ROMAC to the list from DHS.

Won the game 51-21. Six guys from that team played SEC or Gulf South level (Jax State, Troy State) football.

Dante Ellington - off tackle for the 1999 SEC champs.

Leon Douglas played some hoops for the Tide

There was a guy in the mid 80's, I think, that got a scholarship to play QB at Memphis State, but I can not remember his name.

Northside High School-Samantha, Al. Big Bob Baumhower , also a WR name of Robert Hannah (rabbit)who decided to work for Zeiglers instead of going to college. Rest in peace Rabbit.

And though it pains me, we must add Brandon Cox to this list.

Mike Mordecai played MLB for the Braves and the Expos. Also, my senior year at Hewitt we played Huffman for the area title. They beat us 18-0 (we may have scored something) on six field goals. Anyone care to guess the name of their kicker? :)

CM, my cousin played on the state champiosnhip team with Holcomb.

The Falcons also had back to back P'sOY in '93 & '94, I think, but I think both had to go JC because of grades.

Taye Biddle: Good WR for Ole Sis, ran about a 4.3 fastest guy I've ever seen. Now plays for the Carolina Panthers

Jerraud Powers: DB for the Boogers, grew up with him. Great player

Rolando McClain: Need I say more. Gonna be a STUD

Philip Rivers grew up in Decaur and his dad was the coach. Then went to Athens. Used to play backyard football with him, he used to be a crybaby...

Me!! J/K..Played against Marcus Knight (Michigan,Raiders) Tellie Embry (FB for the Barn), Rayjohn Miles (UAB),Vernon Marable (Troy St.),Roger Bell (Jax St.)..I had the DISpleasure of playing against the 94-96 Ashland Panthers.

Northview High School: Dothan, AL


Kevin Jackson- All American Safety @ Bama mid-late 90's grew up right around the corner from me been knowing him since he was little.

Lawrence Dawsey - current WR coach at FSU, former Tampa Bay Buc, former FSU All American WR.

Tracy Cantelope - former CB at Arkansas mid-late 90's. Probably one of the best shutdown corners I ever had the pleasure of watching and knowing.

There's a laundry list of "what-could-have-beens" who were probably better than either of these three, but I'm sure we all have plenty of stories about guys who fit this description.

Only two I can think of. Robinson High School Tampa FL. class of 67' John Reaves, Univ of Florida QB.

And class of 74's, David "Dewey" Mitchell, Bama LB, 75-77. Personally saw Coach Bryant at school to recruit Dewey. Robinson's HC Tom Mann got his own hounds-tooth hat from Coach Bryant during the visit. That brings back a few memories.
