With Alabama now ranked #6 class on Rivals. Could this year shape up to be the best recruiting class ever?

I'm not sure about the best ever. In Bear's first class, he brought in a lot of talent on the promise of a nat'l championship. DuBose also had some awesome classes in the late 90s. Nonetheless, I'd think that this class is the best collection of pure athletic ability since practically every player is extremely versatile as to what positions they could play on the next level. Not only are they versatile, but almost all can run.

May turn out to be in the end but at the moment , it's not even close . Might want to take a look back at around '98-2000 .

Some of those recruits never made it to campus. We would have been better off if at least one of those that did wouldn't have.

You think you could post some of those classes? or give me a link to find them. I enjoyed reading the 93 class I believe that you posted...as well as seeing the other guys coming out of high school at that time that didn't go to Bama.

There in lies the rub. We had a lot of no-shows during that period. There was a big discrepancy between who we got on paper and who we put in uniform.

Too true. Kind of like Powe has been the staple recruit for Ole Miss for 3 years. I haven't heard or read anything about our current commits and their likely eligibility status, so i assume that no news is good news in that dept. If all make it to campus and we land JJ, Green, and one of McClain, Jones, or Glenn, I think the '08 class will be better than the others since we actually will have the talent on hand.

I remember when we were all hanging on a thread waiting on David Payne to commit. I think that put us with about a #3 ranking. I also remember seeing a thing in SI in the mid 80's where Perkins brought in a top 5 class.

I posted a thread like this before and asked the same thing many people said a few years but after checking there is not one class that I could come up with that will even be close! If JJ signs with us we will be top 3 in the country no doubt..

Although we didn't have a good recruiting class in 89,It turned out pretty good.
*cough*Best D in College Football History*cough*

I've had '99 ready to post , it's just a ton of typing for someone as poor at it as I am . I promise I'll set it up like I did the other one - eventually .

At the moment , all we have are no-shows . It was a bad run with non-q's though . Like 7-9 a year .

Speaking of Payne, did he ever play anywhere?
I don't believe he ever played a down .

You must be a little bit younger . Keep in mind we are talking about "guru" rankings which are highly subjective at best but , consider the Dubose class including Tyler , Bryant and Means . At the very worst , they were 3 of the top 5 DT's in the country if not the top 3 . Britt , Smiley & Mathis were also a part of the 2000 class . Harold James , Mckay-loescher , Carlos Andrews , A.Monroe , B.Daniels , etc. . With the exception of Smiley(4+) & Mathis , all of those guys were 5's(at least 8 of them) and there were more with them . The Juco DE named Oglesby is still to this day the best DE I've ever seen . Too bad he only made it through one Spring . Seems like he had 6 sacks in the A-Day game .

Anyhow , like all of us , I hope this class turns out even better . CNS is known as a closer so it sure wouldn't surprise me . For now though , it's pretty hard to compare a partial class to some of Dubose classes which always included anywhere from 28-33 players . Also , call me crazy but , I believe our 2008 class may be larger than we thought . At least 25+ , possibly as high as 30-32 . :biggrin2:

LCN, if we sign over 25 and they all qualify, then what? I know that some kids elect to grayshirt, but with the talent of this class so far, i don't see that happening. What are your thoughts if we do over sign?

It's a shame about Payne. He was a truly awesome football player.

CNS has already said he does not grayshirt signees. He said he signs them to bring them in to play. In my opinion if CNS oversigns it will be because of possible non-qulaifyers
