Big Ten games

I saw a commercial for Big Ten games coming up this weekend and I really don't understand how they can even pretend to be excited about that conference. I'm sorry if this comes off as negative but the weekly matchups that Fox acts as if they are must watch are cringe. Aren't the people who make these commercials real people and don't they secretly roll their eyes at these consistently mid level or bottom tier matchups?

They've got one "name game" this weekend, Penn St vs Ohio St. And that doesn't have the cache' it seemed to have even just one month ago. And one (USC vs Nebraska) that would have been must see TV maybe anytime between 1962 and 2003.

The rest of them:
Rutgers-Illinois
Indiana-Maryland
Mich St-Minnesota
Purdue-Michigan

But I'm not sure it's "that much" better in the SEC this weekend.

Okay, the Cocktail Party is a big deal.

But is it REALLY?
Florida has a worse record than Penn State, fired their coach like Penn State, and Georgia is (in the SEC) not quite but almost what Ohio St is in their conference.

And OU vs the Vols is two ranked teams.

MSU-Arky (meh!)
SCAR-Ole Miss
UK-Auburn

1) Are the SEC games OVERALL better this weekend? Yes.
2) Are they SUBSTANTIALLY better? No.

Now - is this more common to have weekends like this in the B1G than the SEC? Absolutely.

It is pretty slim pickings this week for games. So slim that Gameday will be at Cincinnati vs Utah.

I agree with Selma, I think it just comes down to a particular weekend of games. OSU and Indiana are definitely the best two teams in the Big 10. Bama and A&M are the two best in the SEC. Both have teams that are pretenders and some that are just bad. Top to bottom, I give the SEC the edge simply bc of the number of ranked teams.

Selma, the SEC slate may not be as exciting this coming Saturday but you couldn't pay me to watch the snooze fast in the Big 10. When the PAC 10 was alive and well, they were more entertaining than those Midwest games.
I rather watch SEC games any day of the week and twice on Sunday!
I actually want to see the Florida/ Georgia game. The rivalry is still intense regardless of the records. Georgia should win, but the gator defense will make them work for it. We have seen some interesting results from this game in the past. Georgia is only favored by 7.5.
If Vandy wins in Austin, their Playoff chances increases with each game.

SOS equals SEC conference games. Bama with the toughest at 4 followed by jawga and the rest of the top 25 schedules all SEC teams except the domers. Heck, might as well bring them in next.

What needs to happen to make lists like this carry weight, is when SEC teams play these teams, they need to win and not crap their pants (Tennessee and Alabama of 2024) in front of God and evah-body.

The Big Ten’s problem is that millions more will watch the SEC games regardless of rankings or match ups.
