I thought so.

Anyway, this kind of discussion is good. I've found that sometimes it's good to talk about the touchy subjects because it gives everyone a chance to say their piece without being judged. Ignoring or denying racism is every bit as bad as actually being racist. Let's talk about this thing and see where everyone stands.

I guess I can agree with that.

I agree that most (almost all) Bama Fans are not bigots but lets let't be so wrong as to carry on as if bigotry does not exist in the State of Alabama!!!!!!!! It does and yes it can be heard, if you listen!

My only problem with having a black QB is that announcers and media will always make a big deal about having a black QB. Heaven forbid we have two black QB's...The media would have nothing to write about, because there would be no racial competition between the two. As posted before, 99.9999% of the people couldn't care less what color a player is. I think people just get sick of the way the media likes to make such a big deal about it and hype the racial issues.

I totally agree. The media is obsessed with race. I thought it was revealing that Rush Limbaugh was fired for saying the media wants to see a black QB do well. While I would probably never say that out loud I believe it is accurate. This past Super Bowl was a big mediagasm because (OMG!!!) there were two black coaches for the first time ever! They were actually counting the hours between the first and second like Lovie had any control over the time scheduling for the NFC title game. And I thought I was watching Saturday Night Live when I saw the running news line on ESPN say that Pittsburgh had the hired the Sixth black head coach. Sixth? Is that news? I mean when do we stop counting? Will there be a giant ticker tape parade in Manhattan for number 100?

And does anybody else remember all of the media hype surrounding Jason Sehorn? Would it have been racist for Rush to point out how badly the media wanted to see a white cornerback succeed in the NFL? If I remember correctly Sehorn was never much better than mediocre, but I guess he had a model for a wife so he's big news.

This just brings me back to all of the stupid race talk when Shula was hired. The University apparently chose him over Croom based on skin color because Sly is more experienced, but even though I love Croom and wish him the best at State I think the jury is still out on who would have been the better selection.

In my opinion the influence of the old bigotted alum is becoming more and more of a myth. People like that have no credibility or say in our society anymore. They've been relegated to back corner senile status at the community table and we don't need to give them back any ammunition (mixing metaphors like Sir Mix-A-Lot) Unfortunately that is just what the shameless media try to do every chance they get.

I heard someone comment that lots of Bama fans would not accept or be happy with a black QB

I don't know a single Bama fan that feels that way - Everyone I talk to wants to win , win fairly & don't give a flip about the race of the QB

Tell the truth - Does it matter to any of you

I don't care about the coaches race either - win almost all the games conisistenly fairly, carry yourself in a manner that is not embarassing to the University I don't care about anythigh else

Does it matter to you or have you actually heard Bama fans have concerns about a players 'race'

I don't know why I haven't banned you already, I must be in a good mood. Next time you start one of these Barner topic threads you are gone, gone, gone.
