One of my favorite Knight quotes came after an NCAA Tournament win against LSU in 1987. A reporter asked Knight if he was nervous when his team was down eight with just a few minutes remaining. Knight replied, "I was until I looked down the sideline and saw Dale Brown standing there."

Bobby Knight needs to retire quietly to the backwoods of Texas in a shotgun shack or something.

I agree, but I don't know if that is possible. Last time he was in the backwoods of Texas he fired a shotgun in the direction of some guy's home and started a controversy.

Nice! You can always count on Coach Knight for some terrific lines!
You know Knight has always said that the best team he ever coached against was Bama in 76.
That year they went undefeated and barely beat us in the tournament overcoming a five point deficit in the last three minutes.
One of the best games I've ever seen, and Bama's best team ever in my opinion.
T.R. Dunn, Amp Murray, Ricky Brown, Reggie"Mule" King..and Big Leon.
That was indeed a great starting line up.

Don't forget Keith McCord. He and Ricky Brown shot the mid-range jumpers lights out to bring Bama from a deficit to a late lead which we lost with poor free throw shooting.

I remember that game so well, Coach Knight did one of his best jobs of working the refs in the second half and he got every call late in the game. That was beyond a doubt the best team Bama ever put on the floor. I'll miss him.

Beat us with what might be the worst call in college basketball history(Mark Bradley of the AJC wrote a column on this subject a few years back and this call was in his Top 5). Leon is on a breakaway with Bama up 5 and about 3 minutes to go with Kent Benson in hot pursuit. Douglas playing with 2 fouls and Benson playing with 4, so they tag Leon with the foul. 10 seconds later, on the other end they tag Leon with his fourth. So instead of Benson fouling out, they are now both playing with 4. Bama did not score another point after the bad call and IU went on to win. Anyone remember what Bama did in Dayton in order to advance to BR?

Well horton (who) wont get any cheering from me from now on on the bass master trail. He looks about like a barner though. :eek2:

If I'm not mistaken we beat North Carolina's brains out, and I think they had Phil Ford.

Not only did they have Phil Ford, they had Walter Davis, Tom LaGarde, and Mitch Kupchak, all of whom, in a few short months after being run out of the gym in Dayton by Bama, would be winning Olympic Gold Medals in Basketball in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, along with their coach, Dean Smith.

Don't forget CM.....liked him or not (I loved him) he was a great coach at the Capstone and is a big reason Bama is the second best basketball program in the league (wins, league titles, etc) .

Couldn't agree more, I just wish C.M. would have stayed [not to take anything away from Wimp] and retired at Bama.
