This shows why the powers that be wanted a committee. They can put teams where they want them and make up the criteria to match the result they want. Anyway, I think the playoff matches could be interesting, and I may give the Rose Bowl a look to see smash mouth versus new wave football. I like the match-up with Michigan, and I hope Coach Saban can get the guys ready to play because I would hate to hear the media if Harbaugh can beat Saban.

I don't know how old you are, but if you think this kind of garbage did not happen when we had the AP and UPI (now coach's poll), you need to do some looking.

Hell, look at the last regular season poll of 1979 for openers.

I'm not disputing the committee can do whatever they wish, but let's all quit pretending this is unique to the committee. It has ALWAYS gone on and it ALWAYS will go on in sports that use polls.

Just a few off the top of my head:

in the final 1985 poll, Tennessee finished fourth in the AP poll with a record of 9-1-2, one spot ahead of Florida, who actually had a better record of 9-1-1. More importantly, FLORIDA WAS THE TEAM THAT BEAT TENNESSEE FOR THEIR ONLY LOSS!!!!!

How the hell do you then rank the Vols higher????

in the final 1986 poll, Ohio State (10-3) finished number 7 while Alabama (also 10-3) finished number 9....despite beating Ohio State, 16-10, in the opener of the college football season that year. Better yet, Ohio State was one spot ahead of Michigan despite LOSING to the Wolverines in the final regular season game, 26-24.

In that same poll, 10-3 Alabama was ranked ahead of 9-3 LSU, who won the SEC. But at least I can understand that one since anyone who watched the Alabama-LSU game knows we beat ourselves.

(If your argument is "but that's after the bowl games," how do you explain Ohio St being ranked ahead of Alabama at the end of the regular season?)

In 1988, USC beat UCLA head-to-head by nine points, finished with the same record - and UCLA was a spot higher in the final poll.

But look at my two favorites and then tell me the committee is this bad:

1) 1993

Notre Dame beats FSU, 31-24, in South Bend. (The Noles trailed by 21 points in the fourth quarter). Using the EXACT opposite logic of 2019 Alabama-LSU (the final margin was 5 and Alabama never trailed in the fourth by 21 points)......FSU dropped to #2. The very next week when Boston College beat Notre Dame in an upset - Florida State was #1 again.

(How in the world does a loss to BC turn into "FSU beat Notre Dame"???)

2) 2003 BCS

Oklahoma enters the Big 12 title game as an unbeaten number one.

They get smoked by 28 points (and in all honesty the game wasn't even THAT close).

They remain number one after the game, the most preposterous rating in the history of college football.

Compared to those, this committee has the infallibility of God on Judgment Day.

I think that Bama caught the full force of EVERYTHING that the Heather Dinich and the CFP scammittee say they look at to hit teams with and they decided to apply ALL of them in FULL FORCE but only to Bama.
-Weak out of conference schedule
-No conference title
-Lost two games
-no wins vs. ranked teams (A&M not ranked anymore...Virginia was left ranked so Clemson would have at least one win
-injuries

**on the bright side the logic is so bad that it might get the change brought about faster**

There is no way that is true. The committee is bad but they aren't that bad.
I’m thinking that if it had been a last second loss or OT it would have been considered seriously. They lost to South Carolina at home which would rule them out in my book. HORRIBLE LOSS!!!

In other news...this is some seriously boring programming!!!! Off to watch Hallmark Christmas movies.

Think about this. Bama would not have made an eight team playoff, heck we wouldn't have made a twelve team playoff this year! ;) The committees eye test needs glasses!! There is no such thing as a bad loss anymore it seems.

The BCS formula and the committee picked the same 4 teams for playoff each year. According to BCS, we are #11 this year.
Alabama had the talent to be ranked much higher, but you didn't have a schedule which allowed you to prove where you really belong. Wish you could have played a few of the other teams ranked ahead of you this year.

Right?!?!OMG, can you hear it now....Harbaugh couldn't beat Meyer but takes down Saban...It would make what's already going to be a long off-season even longer...Let's not let that happen!!!

Obviously, we had no takers from the ACC other than Duke for the kickoff game. And the SEC East hurts us since we only have one rotational opponent and there's only 2 teams worth playing on that side.

The Duke CFA Kickoff debacle is thanks to the prior AD's contract with CFA KO Committee for the FSU game. Battle should have never signed on to a contract that didn't explicitly define our opponents for both games. He did and we paid the price for it this year. It we had just beaten a Virginia team in the opener, our perception would've been markedly improved.

It is what it is at this point and I'm happy to be playing Michigan.

What upsets me is the money. Don't the NY6 bowls pay out millions more than the Citrus? Although it seems I remember the Citrus being the highest paying bowl outside of the BCS back in those days.

The money is split up by the entire conference - doesn't matter.

If someone kidnapped the families of all the committee members and said you have to correctly predict the winner of a Alabama-Baylor game or we'll feed your families to sharks who do you think they're picking?
