Brodie and the Boys Playin' Softball

This will be one of those hind-sight things. If he gets hurt they'll say, "See, he shouldn't have been allowed to play softball! What was Shula thinking of? What kind of coach can allow that to happen?" As in "Why was the starting QB in the game with a 39 point lead?" You can't predict or protect from every possible consequence.

Let the kid have some fun. I doubt if he wasn't playing an hour long softball game he would devote that time to the weight room anyway.

I've played softball since 1968. I also have broken my right index finger, sprained 4 ankles, had a headon collision chasing a flyball, tore right hamstring, hit in the head with a linedrive, seen an another player slide over a base and base broke cutting his leg severely, man hit in the face playing 2nd base with line drive breaking his nose, man warming up getting hit in face, I have a lot more. University of Louisville's punter goes to our church and sprained his ankle last week. He was playing basketball and I saw him at our softball game and I asked him "what did Coach Bobby say"? He said "he is not happy with me, but I'm playing softball when I get better". Brodie can play softball, but he has to be very careful. My $00.02

Brodie should be allowed to play softball. It's for the good of the football team. If he suffers a season-ending injury, the team will have more time to install an offense minus Brodie. Better now than the third game of the season. People, it's for the good of the football team...

All I have to say is... What the ****!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Sure, it's possible to be injured playing softball but, like CJK said, you can get hurt walking across campus. I played HS baseball, independant league baseball, softball in the service and softball in an interplant league where I worked. I was lucky enough that I never saw anyone seriously hurt playing either. Brodie is not rehabilitating an injury, he is 100% over the injury and is ready to return to normal activities. Playing softball will enable him to use his athletic skills and keep in shape, plus have some fun. He can still hit the weights. Brodie is to competetive to live in a bubble.

I can't...

agree that Brodie is 100% recovered, having been through it myself, and having researched it exhaustively. He won't be for a full 10-12 months, even given youthful tissues, etc. The stuff you read about miraculous recoveries, etc., is mostly fairy tales. However, as I've said before - we can't control it, so we may as well relax and enjoy...
