Brodie and the Boys Playin' Softball

Lifting weights has nothing to do with a knee injury, but it might have something to do with preventing the next one. He still doesn't have the bulk he needs.

I tore a quadricep last year playing intramural football on a routine play where I had to make one cut. It hurt like hell for about six months, but I rode it out in order to not have surgery. My other option was to get the surgery done and end up in a walking cast or on crutches, so yeah, it's pretty easy to get hurt doing this stuff.

Nobody is saying put him in a box until fall, but there's no sense in going out of the way to take risks. Nobody has said anything about him not being able to fish or hunt...that's fine, but it seems a little stupid to me to go out and take unnecessary risks like this, especially after coming off two consecutive years with season ending injuries. Wait and see what happens if he actually does get hurt playing softball. Every media outlet in the country will have a field day dragging us through the mud again.

WOW! Brodie playing softball... sounds like something I need to go check out. Problem is... I wouldn't watch the game. I would stare at Brodie the entire time. It dosen't surprise me though that Brodie is playing softball... acoording to his family, he has always played a part in many sports

Hey, did you get my PM last week - I've got some awesome pics of Brodie from our golf tournament !!!

Have to agree that BC was just unlucky last year. It was a freak injury -- I did my knee in just warming up for a game -- no, not football but the injury still required surgery, so it's just a freak thing.

Give the guy a chance and let him live his life.

Best of luck

I play out there every week too. The fields are horrible and it is very easy to get hurt even if you are in shape. We lost two last week (torn acl and pulled calf muscle) to the injury bug. That said, he's not under contract. If he get's hurt, at least he'll be having fun doing it.

if you want some of mine, let me know and I'll email them to you...of course most of mine or not candid's but posed.

Sure thing. I would love to see some of the pm shots since I had to leave around 10 that morning. I will email my pics too. I hope I don't fill up your mail box

Shortly after Ray Perkins signed with the Colts, he opened an insurance agency in Mobile and turned up playing softball in one of the leagues I was playing in. He started out at shortstop, but his football hands didn't transfer to softball and he was quickly moved to the outfield. That only lasted a few games before he "retired".

Nita, you have to balance what Kines said versus his sense of humor. If there ever was a guy who came across like "good ole' country boy...."

Brodie should be allowed to play softball. It's for the good of the football team. If he suffers a season-ending injury, the team will have more time to install an offense minus Brodie. Better now than the third game of the season. People, it's for the good of the football team...

Sorry, but ...

ridiculous!

He is the starting quarterback, rehabilitating his third major injury and set to start in his senior season for an Alabama team that has a good chance to make some noise if all stay healthy.

I agree with whomever said he should spend more time in the weight room.

There is too much at stake to risk his getting hurt rounding third base against Billy Bob's Ball Busters.

He has the rest of his life to play softball. Doesn't seem to me that he is thinking much of his team, school or fans, or last opportunity to play college football.

Just my .02 cents.

Exactly what I was trying to say. Well put.

I would be worried if I were him. I am prettty sure that softball causes more injuries nationwide than any other sport. Part of the reason that is true is that more people play softball than any other sport and the people playing softball aren't always in the best of condition, nor are the fields. Lots of sprained ankles, etc. I had more than a few softball injuries over the years. lol

Second that!

I've played football, baseball, basketball - on the HS or College level - and racquetball and lots of late night basketball since then, BUT I've had more injuries playing softball than any of the other sports

My theory is that softball requires you to go from standing still to full speed whether it's offense or defense, and there is no way to warm up and stay warmed up - just my theory

That said, I hate to see Brodie take those kinda chances, and as someone else said, the media will rake him good if he squanders his senior year on the gridiron for such - sorta like Kellen Winslow and his motorcycle mishap

Seems like being on a football scholarship would bring certain restrictions concerning things that might jeapordize his fullfilling that obligation...but maybe not

I personally think Brodie is needed as much in 2005 for his leadership as for his right arm

The impression I get from some on the boards is that Brodie doesn't seem as interested is becoming the QB some think he can or should be - if that is, in fact, the case then I'm ready to see who else wants it bad enough, but I'm still holding out for Brodie to have a record setting season

I say go and be all you can be as a college student, but just not SOFTBALL, please!

just my 2

football

i think that if this had happened last year the coaches might have had an objection, but at ths point in time i dont think the coaches will mind at all. because we have some depth at QB.JPW is as capable as BC and more durable. if brodie gets hurt playing softball, the coaches say publicly its a terrible thing ,but privately they say no big deal were going to keep on playing.

I feel your pain. We had one of our outfielders twist his ankle just jogging out to his position. One too many hidden "potholes" out there.

Like he couldn't get hurt in the weight room too.

Once again, the injuries he had these past 2 years had nothing to do with how muscular he is, or isn't. The shoulder was hurt when he made a tackle because someone else fumbled the ball. The knee was a non-contact twist injury because he planted the leg wrong.

I don't care how big and strong he might have been, either of those injuries would have still been possible.
