After Va Tech played for the national championship (and were defeated by Fla State), Beamer had a trophy case erected in the football practice facility for the Hokies' national championship trophy to inspire the football team to get back to a national championship game and win it. It sat empty year after year.
I think when Beamer retired, they quietly removed the emtpy case.
