I can tell you as fact the circumstances surrounding the suspensions works to Alabamas disadvantage in this particular case. Alabama was very good at full strength early in the season when they beat the likes of Wichita State and VCU. There is no question I would take VCU at this point in the season over Alabama as an at large if it came to that. VCU is a great story with a great coach in Shaka Smart. Alabama has to get to 20 wins to legitamately deserve consideration. This is my personal opinion based on what has transpired at Alabama this hoops season.
Bama has 4 reg. season games and the SEC tourny to get 3 more wins to reach 20. I'd rather we get to 21 or so myself to be more sure..

If Alabama goes 2-2 to finish the season regardless of who the wins are against they will need 2 wins in the SEC tourney to put them at a 75 % chance to get in. 2-2 will probably net them a #6 seed or #7 seed in the SEC tourney. As of today that would mean a first round match up against either Georgia or Auburn. A neutral court game against Auburn having to beat them for a 3rd staight game won't be easy. Thats assuming Bama beats Auburn twice in the regular season. Either way their tournament fate would come down to the necessity of beating either Florida or Vandy in the second round.

He is free to have that opinion...I tend to agree with him. He knows his bball. I
f we can only split our last 4 games (which would mean beating *U and Miss I would think), then we'll need two tournament wins to be in what I would consider the "safe zone". Sitting at 19 regular season wins in the SEC won't be very attractive this year (even with an RPI in the 30's). I believe we SHOULD win at least 3 of 4 over these last two weeks. Given that, 3 wins and not bombing our first game in the SEC tournament we should be in...If we can win all 4, then we would be a top 4 seed in the SEC and get a bye. We would also (barring some NCAA shenanigans) be a virtual lock for the Dance sitting at 21 wins and a top 30 RPI heading into the SEC Tourney.
We owned the SEC tourney under Wimp. It seemed like every year he was able to make the right tweaks at the end of the season to get us playing our best come tournament time. I miss those days but believe we are on the cusp of being there again.
