It probably doesn't free up any money for NIL as much as it allows any capital projects on the books to continue. Many colleges are having to suspend moving forward with capital projects to fund NIL. Only the uber-wealthy can keep their current capital projects budget AND properly fund their NIL coffers.

Private equity firms may come into play if the schools don't figure out how to raise more money to not only fund capital projects but also the ever-rising cost of paying players.

I just can't wait to see a private equity firm liquidate a functioning university athletic department for parts because they can make more money that way.
