  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

If this isn't proof that the preseason rankings need to go away, I don't know what is.
I don't think there should be any polls until the first CFP poll.

All these TV/radio/podcast sports guys wouldn't know what to talk about without polls. How would they know which teams to pump up and which to whine about. Except for Booger, he can just keep whining about Bama like he always does.

I had a friend I worked with (big Michigan fan). The first day of work after the national championship game he came to my office and said, "We're all undefeated again!"
That is part of the charms of sports. Everybody begins again with a clean slate at the start of every season.
I think it is a bit silly to have a pre-season poll, or even a poll before, say, week 5. I mean, what are those polls based on?

Generally speaking most of these “experts” (cough cough) base it off of 1) previous years 2) what returns from the two deep 3) how they’ve recruited in past years 4) ease of schedule 5) and now who has come in via transfer portal.

Basically a SWAG…..

Penn State -they spent a ton on NIL to keep key components from last year, coming of the playoffs. Plus looking at PSU’s schedule, they had very manageable schedule after Oregon (supposedly). Texas was based off who they had recruited and kept along with crowning Arch as the front runner for Heisman even though he hadn’t seen much actual playing time. Clemson based much on return of Klubnik and an easy schedule past opener with LSU.

My “eyes” tell me right now tOSU and Miami look the best. After that it is a crap shoot.

Agreed on all points.
I think it will be difficult to predict from week to week who is going to win. Lots of teams seem to be on emotional (or perofmance) rollercoasters.

I would throw in texas tech as a team that is pretty good. None of their games so far have even been remotely close.

So far, they have one out of 10 in the same position as the preseason and 3 teams within 2 spots of the preseason ranking.

But, I calculate they are 11.9 spots off on average for every top ten team, meaning they could have pulled the top 25 names out of a hat and probably have been as close as the original poll. Clemson getting zero votes really hurts this the most.

There really isn't anything egregious about any of the other 7 rankings, even a team falling from 6 to 16 isn't being "way wrong". It is the 3 teams being unranked that is crazy and honestly feels unprecedented.
