I counted 37 sacks in the sports reference database from 2005. That's the year of the Sack Brodie Sack Iron Bowl.

We gave up a dozen more sacks that we did with Bucket Step Bob. Let that sink in.
His "strategy" was literally to let the DL have momentum and the OL direct that momentum away from the QB. According to him, DLs did not "bull rush" anymore and that tactic didn't need to be accounted for.

IOW, Bucket Step Bob was guilty of coaching malpractice yet this OL outdid his ineptitude. I don't know if I am sad, disgusted, or angry.

I actually hope I counted wrong. I had to go to each game summary and count the sacks listed in the defensive stats and add them up.

2005: 37-249 - 6.73avg/sack - 3.08 sack/game
2023: 49-360 - 7.34avg/sack - 3.5 sack/game
That's something else I noticed. When JM gets sacked, he REALLY gets sacked.

So where do you start to fix the sacks issue? There's blame all around. With the financial commitment to the program those numbers are unacceptable. Can you imagine what would happen if a Pro team had that many sacks.

Get the ball out quicker.
