CFP Selection Show watch thread

Other New Years Six Bowls:

Ole Miss vs TCU - Peach Bowl
Mississippi State vs Georgia Tech - Orange Bowl
Baylor vs Michigan State - Cotton Bowl
Arizona vs Boise State - Fiesta Bowl
I will watch all but the Fiesta - don't really care to see those teams play anyone, much less one another.

You are one of my favorite posters. Don let the crazies bother you. Between now and 1/1 there will be a bunch of short-lived usernames. I'm still in 24 hour mode, but will be ready to focus on Ohio State come Monday. Looking forward to a great game between two teams with the finest of pedigrees.

I don't think so - I truly have come to love Alabama football. I will continue to do what I have done - come to this board to talk about Alabama football, not OSU football. I have not plans to beat my drum - it just isn't my style. Besides, my drum as a Buckeye fan is a lot smaller than my drum as an Alabama fan.

Quick question. When was the last time an SEC champion didn't get a shot at a national championship? Don't know why this popped into my head, but I'm curious as to what the answer is.

Any of you who doubted this committee was and is a total farce, simply look at the piles of manure coming out of Jeff Long's mouth now compared to what he said before:

1) December 2

“We evaluate these teams, we watch the games, we watch the films,” committee chairman and Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long told ESPN. “We believe TCU’s a better football team at this point in time.”

(Keep in mind that Baylor beat TCU head-to-head awhile back.

Now look:

2) December 7

He also said head-to-head was the deciding factor between Baylor and TCU. The Bears beat the Frogs, 61-58, earlier this season.

So five days ago, head-to-head did NOT prevent TCU from taking a BIGGER lead on Baylor. But NOW.....five days later....it's the DECIDING FACTOR? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

And if he wants to mouth the "whole body of work," tell me how:

a) Baylor's barely scraping by K-State is better than TCU blowing the Wildcats out
b) he himself said the following about Ohio State:

1) Long pretty much dismissed the crummy Ohio State home loss to 6-6 Virginia Tech, saying the Buckeyes overcame it.
2) "With the championship game, Ohio St demonstrated they were a total team. ...It was decisive for Ohio State to move" into No. 4,"

Okay, someone help me with THIS insanity. First, I'm told it's the whole body of work. THEN, I'm told head-to-head matters when it didn't five days earlier. And THEN, I'm told ONE GAME by Ohio State undoes ONE OTHER GAME by Ohio State.

Smh...

I don't think everyone will be happy with any system. First, Baylor had not played K State which is a good team. So 5 days ago, there was that disequilibrium in the schedules. Keep in mind neither TCU nor Baylor had strong OOC schedules. In fact, Baylor was 128 out of 128. So the K State game would have been meaningful to the committee before they would have weighed the head to head matchup. After the K State game, the head to head factored into the ranking. But what OSU did could not be overlooked nor should it be. When you lose has always mattered. Better to lose early than late. The Big XII commish didn't help their cause by not naming a champion but frankly I am not sure that would have made a difference in the outcome. I thought the committee was fair in their assessment. You could have made a case for TCU, Baylor or OSU but I believe they got it right. There are quality wins and Baylor's win was a quality win. Also keep in mind that Baylor's game with TCU was a home game for Baylor and home is worth at least 3 points. What they said when they said it makes perfect sense to me.

It's pretty easy for most of us to say they got it right since most of us think of OSU as a perennial power while viewing neither TCU nor Baylor as perennial powers. OSU is part of the royal family of football while the other two are not.

One thing this committee is not. They are not the polls we have seen in the past where you win and you don't move. Frankly I like that but I think some of the confusion from some of the posters here is based on the old poll system.
