Cajun,

ESPN had our SOS at 125 this morning. I couldn't figure out how it backed up so much after playing all those games you are talking about and then improved 25-30 spots after one game against Georgia yesterday. All of those numbers are a joke.

Losing the way we did today makes us a maybe. I hope we made it, but I'm afraid those eggheads in Indy will leave us out. Anyone know our current RPI?

76 (Link). Updated real-time several times a day. Got as high as 69 just after yesterday's win, but dropped back to 73 after a few of the other games were played. Was at 79 after today's loss.

So many people (not just Bama fans) have looked at the RPI recently and commented how awful it is as a ranking process. Does the NCAA tourny selection committee really put so much weight into the RPI?

I don't think there are 75 teams that are better than Alabama right now and the selection committee should recognize that. Almost all teams improve over the course of a season, but it should be obvious that Bama made a bigger leap than most.

Absolutely agree there are not 75 better teams than us. Villanova is a joke 5-10 in ther last 15 games. We should be in the tourney in a perfect world. Not so much in the NCAA we have to be politically correct world.

The strength of schedule calculation is a real joke in my opinion.

A team could play every game against teams with .500 records and because of the way SOS is calculated it would be about the same as playing half of the games against top 10 teams and the other half against bottom 10 teams. I think the second of those scenarios would make for a far more challenging schedule, but the calculation they use sees them as being equal...so for example Team A could play a schedule without one good team on it and Team B could play half of their games against elite teams and they would have basically the same SOS.

In my opinion, we would win a lot more games playing 30 games against a team with .500 record than we would if we played Kansas 15 times and Prairie View 15 times. The SOS that they use sees those schedules as being about equal.

The games we played against the 300+ RPI teams are SOS killers and in reality those teams are not much worse than a lot of the teams in the 175-200 range, but those 175-200 games don't really hurt the SOS.

What is a joke is that Jerry Palm still has Georgia in and us out. It is also a joke that we have more top 50 wins than va tech, clemson, boston college and penn state. It is wrong that we are being penalized for one bad weekend in the Virgin Islands. Of course this is from the bracketologists not the committee, but it is completely wrong if we get left out.

I'm afraid the way we got beat today will really hurt us in the eyes of the committee. The score was a lot closer than the game...

I feel like we are going to get in. We all shouldn't listen to the projections so much and just form our own opinion. Everyone I listen to says Alabama should be in, whether it's the talking heads at ESPN, John Calipari, or people on message boards. The only guys who say we aren't in are the guys like Lunardi and Palm who are using a formula. Everyone who knows basketball says Alabama is going to get in.

Here are the people on the committee......not having SEC representation scares me a little......

Has anyone else noticed the number of losses many of these teams are carrying? Michigan 13, Mich State 14, Illinois 13, Penn State 13 (could be 14), USC 14, Marquette 14, BC 12, Colorado 13.......

Then you see UGA with 11, Bama with 11..........and Bama beat UGA 2x. Bama has the best conference record vs any of these teams.....(by at least 3 games). Bama's bad losses are to Iowa (which beat Purdue and Michigan State), St Peters (who won their tournament and are in the dance), Providence (who beat Louisville and Villanova on the same court where they beat us), and Seton Hall (who also be Syracuse, St Johns and Marquette)........i'd love for someone to tell me how you lose to teams in the "so called" top 2 conferences, and those are considered BAD losses? Plus AT Arkansas and AT Ole Miss -- geez.......

I find myself getting more frustrated by the minute. Let's just hope we get to go to Dayton on Tuesday -- and let's hope we get a Michigan State or a Va Tech or a Penn State or what if we got Georgia again? lol
