My coworkers in Mobile area say it’s a mess. Trees down everywhere blocking roads. The good news is I don’t know anyone who flooded, and most escaped major physical damage to property. Most importantly, they are physically safe.

We lost some trees and it looked like a bomb went off and we are just north of foley. This was our first hurricane and next time we will not be home. Thankful that it wasn’t any stronger than it was.

My Mom lives on the Eastern Shore, and I call to her every morning and every evening to check on her. Haven't been able to catch her in the last two days. She refuses to move closer to me or my siblings so we can check on her personally on a regular basis. She is stubborn and insists on staying where she is and sees no advantages to moving. Well, this is one of the many, many scenarios where there is great advantage to being closer to family. Sigh.

I agree and with cell service being spotty you just can’t reach anybody. We had to drive til we had service to let our son know so he could tell others.

Just talked to the wife of an old friend, former UA player from the early 1970's...they have a large tree down on their home in Daphne, but all are safe. Lots and lots of tree damage in Mobile and area from what I can tell via the web.

Baldwin County is under a curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily until further notice.

Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism is requesting visitors to not come to coastal Alabama for the next 10 days through 9/26:

Our destination is closed to visitors for at least the next 10 days (through Saturday, Sept. 26) to allow the cities, businesses, and residents time to assess damage and begin cleanup and repairs. This includes Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and the Fort Morgan Peninsula. Visitors with existing reservations for these dates should contact the hotel or company you have reservations with to understand their policies related to storms, cancellations, and rescheduling.

Residents and visitors must stay off the roads unless it is an emergency because of debris and downed power lines, as well as continued flooding issues. DO NOT get on the roads to sightsee and look at damage. Roadways need to remain clear for city workers, power company workers and emergency responders.

Curfews are in place for all of Baldwin County – including Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Fort Morgan Peninsula and nearby Foley – each evening from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.

The Highway 59 bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Gulf Shores (main bridge onto the island) is closed for entry to the island until further notice except for residents with valid hurricane re-entry stickers or contractors with appropriate contractor passes.
A good friend here in the ATL texted me yesterday about the "status" of OB. Said he had reservations at a condo on the beach for next weekend and what did I think. My response: "How good is your cancellation/reschedule policy?"

I have family in Fairhope they were told they may be without power for at least a week. They live on a county road there 24 I think it is. She said there are a good many houses down there with trees on them.

Some info from Baldwin EMC: https://www.facebook.com/BaldwinEMC/

"Baldwin EMC will be distributing ️ice, free for the community, on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Bay Minette Middle School, Central Baldwin Middle School and Foley Middle School. We’ll be handing out bags from 11:30 a.m. until we run out! Limit two bags per family. "

"First, on Wednesday morning, 17 of Baldwin EMC’s 22 substations did not have power. That was a big problem because power restoration begins at the substation. In other words, there is no way to restore power to your house before the substation has power. So, here’s some good news, yesterday was a big day for our substations! We were able to energize 14 substations! BUT, that is only the very first step.

Our feeder lines, which supply electricity from substations to communities, are repaired next. In many ways, this is where Sally really left her mark on Baldwin EMC’s system. We had approximately 2,000 broken poles, 1,238 broken crossarms, 4,160 spans of downed wire and 4,297 trees on lines. Crews are simultaneously working on all these feeder lines throughout Baldwin County.

Every community in our service area has crews assigned to restoring power; however, some communities will get power sooner than others. That fact has everything to do with where Sally hit the hardest and how much damage was done in your area.
It is important to know as you see poles and powerlines going back up, the crews can’t turn power on until the complete circuit is repaired. That might mean that they must continue repairs past your house. Don’t be discouraged, they are not moving on but are just completing the process. Once the feeder lines are repaired, crews will focus on service wires to individual homes and businesses.

We are going to start posting progress information as we receive it, but we will not be able to answer individual location questions. We are optimistic that today will be a good day for many. Regardless of how long it takes, Baldwin EMC crews (along with 1,100+ visiting crew workers, who are either on the ground or en route!) will work relentlessly to get everyone restored."

We crossed the gulf the last couple days from Houston. We anchored 2 miles off of Gulf Shores around 0300 today. The only lights showing on the beach were the red beacons on top of the condos.
I’ve lived through plenty of storms and the related power outages, but this was one of the eeriest things I remember seeing.
Phone pic, so not sure how clear it will be.
If you closely you should see a clear line between the sky and the darker shoreline. I’m used to seeing OB lit up like any other coastal town at night.

We are all good in Pensacola. The loss of the 3 Mile bridge is going to be a problem for about 2 months. Lots of debris and limbs down. No power is always the worse. It came on yesterday afternoon for us. We are blessed as a lot of folks are not up and going yet.
