Coach Saban Hot Topic after LSU practice

That Jacob Hester just has too much common sense. We're going to have to knock some of that out of him. hehe

I've said all along that the hype from this game will be media driven. The players will play and the coaches will coach, and after the game they will say hi to old friends then move on to the next game.
 
Question for you LSU63. What O and/or D philosophy has Coach Miles brought with him that has changed the way LSU plays on either/both sides of the ball since he took over from Coach Saban?

Lots of talk on this board re: CNS style/process/type players recruited etc which all in all comprises his coaching philosophy. One he has apparently used at several of his coaching stops most notably LSU and now Bama. I am interested in what you perceive as CLMs philosophy and how he as implemented it to change LSU into the team we see today.

I am around a lot of LSU fans every day. Many who make the drive to Baton Rouge for all the home games. The word I get, from a fans standpoint, is that if LSU loses to Bama coach Miles might as well "start packing his bags" for U of M.

Man that is a lot of pressure considering LSU is ranked #3 in the nation. But, it goes to show you what the LSU fans really think about CNS. Him coming here to coach has ratcheted up this rivalry big time. I love it!

Defense definitely relies on the blitz less now. CNS was the master of the various zone blitzes, and his defense was quite complex. He genarally added varitety and subtle changes to his blitz packages every week. He named the plays after states, and by the NC game in 2003 had run out of states and was incorporating Alpha no.'s to the plays. Both defenses rely on press, man coverage from the DB's Both defensive schemes rely on nickel packages, mainly because of the offenses we all see in the SEC. Saban seemed to stunt a lot more than we do now. Both defenses seem to adjust well at half time. Although that's overrated by fans. Generally, halftime adjustments are small, when you spend all week gameplanning, you don't wholesale change your gameplan in a 20 min. half.

On offense, both coaches like to lean on the run, if possible. OC at LSU is known for the running a spread option, but that's really not what we run here. LM goes 5 wide alot more than NS did, even though our rec. have hd the drops lately and we're deep at RB. Both like balance and try to fit their plays to the personnel running them, not the other way around. As noticed, Miles gambles more, but I think it's because he has a veteran offense that can handle the pressure of gambling. Next year, in a reloading season with the toughest games on the road, I have a feeling that may not be the case.

Interestingly, one thing hadn't changed, under both LM and NS, LSU has been heavily penalized. In the 2003 NC year and 2004, we were the most penalized team in the SEC, and it looks like it hadn't gotten any better.

Thanks for the post, LSU63. About what I expected. As noted, players will play, coaches will coach, fans will yell, and media will hype. We'll all fulfill our assigned duties. Of course, I hope 2 subsets of those categories of participants will not perform to perfection...:cool:

And I call guano on the Aubie linemen quoted in another section of the article. It was very clearly a chop block. But that could be the subject of another thread. Oh wait....*winks*

referee should be suspended for the remainder of the season for not flagging
it. Hope Dorsey's knee is OK. And I hope Alabama fans AND LSU fans will let
the players play this game and show class on both sides. :BigA:

Amen, and you can bet that the media will make this way worse. And they will highlight the fans that back up the angle that they want to create.

Don't forget the idiots on youtube with there little anti-saban videos (not just lsu fans but barners or anyone anti-saban or anti-bama). they act like if lsu beats bama, saban is just gonna roll over and die. They seem to forget that lsu will play bama next year and the year after that and the year after that etc. LOL. Here is hoping to a great game in two weeks, and Im glad to hear that Dorsey is ok.

Even though I believe that CNS coaching at Bama puts a whole lot more fan pressure on the game, after all he is known as "coach Satan" there now, I do not personally believe that CLM should think that this is a must win game to maintain his job. He is way too good a coach to have to worry about that.

But, as I said, I do believe that CNS being here has put a whole new spin on this rivalry and as a football fan in general, I love it!... and that ain't no bull.

No doubt Coach Miles would love to beat Saban ... but I seriously doubt that he or the players are obsessed with it.

I for one am tired of the nastiness that is becoming more and more a part of college football rivalries. Good-natured rivalry is one thing ... bitterness and hatred is another.

Fortunately, it's mostly a fan thing. I'm pretty sure LSU's players and coaches have a great deal of respect for Bama's players and coaches ... and vice versa.

It's always a mistake to judge a team or program by the worst message board rantings of its fans. I'd hate for anyone to use that standard to evaluate Bama.

You know he does want this win pretty bad and I bet the players that Saban recruited do to. They might say all the right PC things in public, but I can only imagine what is being said in team talks amongst themselves.

Bull because it's not the feeling of the majority of LSU fans that Miles has to win this one. Is the game even bigger to some because of Saba?. You bet

Is it big to more LSU fans because if we lose, we lose control of our own destiny in the SECW and all hope of a MNC are gone? You bet

Will the ones who are devastated because we lost to a NS coached team be the loudest, most vocal? You bet

Will people who want to say that we're devastated because of NS point to the ones backing up there argument as proof? Yup

If LSU wins convincingly and Miles does a great job of gameday coachingwill some still say he's an idiot because they've made up their minds and nothing can change it? Yup.

Like I said, people, especially a lot of football fans, believe what they want to. I'm an LSU fan, but I try to be open to ideas that don't back up the way I want things to be, hence my statements that we're just now starting to get an idea if Miles can sustain what Saban started.

I agree 100% and truly I wish LSU and coach miles only the best...unless they are playing the Tide...:)

You make some fine points. I have a bunch of friends who are really big boosters at LSU and they seem to think that this is a must win for Miles only in respect to your average fan. In other words keeping all the loose cannons behind him and not out there railing against him every second of the day. Some have said they wouldn't want to hear the call in show if LSU were to lose to BAMA. I personally have to believe this is a really important game to Les because if he wins he can finally put all the comparisons to rest. If he loses he will never be truly respected for what he has accomplished.
