This was a great talk, and I am glad that I got a chance to listen to Coach Saban talk about something so fundamental. My biggest take-away was that we need to first determine what is important to us before we begin to employ his discipline. The difference between investing time vs wasting time really tracks back to our goals. Without knowing what we want, we cannot very well define the difference between time invested and spent.

Thanks to the original poster - very thought provoking.

Well guess what? It's B.S.
I'll just say this..the most disciplined, relentless, determined and persevering person in the history of this planet was Jesus, so I don't see where you could get a negative from anything Coach Saban said.

Last thing I'll say on this, because otherwise we'd belong in NS - Jesus didn't wake up every morning and pull himself up by his boot straps. The Gospel isn't good advice.

Yep, I think you have officially taken this to the NS board.

I think this was a great video for everyone to see and listen to. I like playing it for my son to listen to since he likes X-Box. My son seems to really grasp the whole investing vs. spending your time deal.

Some may disagree with me, but, everything doesn't have to revolve around religion. Good advice can come in many forms and just because it doesn't fit into a religious world view doesn't make it bad, just makes it non-religious.

I'll get us back on track.

As an educator, this is very solid advice for students and anyone with a creative or athletic endeavor. Might show it to my students this fall.

Correct. He probably wore sandals.

Great advice by someone who from all appearences not only says it but does it.

Well that's exactly what I thought as well...so what's wrong with showing it to a church youth group who may be interested in creative or athletic endeavors or just becoming better persons?

This video is full of great advice, regardless of religion. I don't know that I would have used the term BS around a bunch of 8 year olds, but the man is right. Kids these days waste a lot of their time on those things. I have no kids, but if I did, I would love to send them to hear coach Saban talk. He is driven unlike the vast majority of society, and that is what makes him great. Sounds like something that I would read in a John Wooden book (which I recommend that everyone on TideFans read because they are incredible.)

MP: "Ma'am, when I was 6 years old I had a full-time job."

Just watched the video with a Dolphins fan who has the normal dislike for CNS that they do. After the vid, he stated that he had a different view and a lot of respect for him now. Now that's sellin somethin!!

I can see the reaction on a Barn board.....Saban curses at children and praises homicidal maniac.

Seriously, I thought this video was great. I just now got a chance to watch it and that was a very motivational speech. One thing I'm impressed by is that he actually works the camp, rather than just putting his name on it, cashing a check, taking pictures and then going to play golf.

I love this!! Especially, when Saban talks about effort!
