Coaching carousel 2025-26

I'm reading Ole Miss is demanding a decision from Kiffin by the time the Egg Bowl is played, but would they go ahead and fire him if he doesn't give an answer? If they actually would then probably Golding would have to coach them in the playoff.

No, firing him would trigger his buyout. That would be stupid on their part. They are just pounding sand. They would be wise to just keep their mouth shut with the media and Kiffin's agents. And what you read could be propaganda put out by his agents to rile up the OM fans. Again, to put maximum pressure on Ole Miss to pay up.

I take all of this as a sign that he wants to stay at Ole Miss making top dollar with improved NIL commitments.

Shifting gears a bit, but I do think James Franklin is a good hire for VT. The guy recruits like a madman, so at a minimum they’ll be one of the most talented teams in the ACC in the next 2-3 seasons. He usually hires competent coordinators as well.

I could be wrong, but I think this hire brings VT back to respectability, which they’ve not had very often in the post-Beamer era. Probably not championship level, but back to winning 8-9 games on an annual basis and competing for the ACC title every few years.

The problem now is that the moment one of your younglings shows some promise they get poached by teams with bigger NIL budgets.

It’s going to be hard to cultivate a foundation solid enough to jump up and surprise people at a place like VaTech in the new age of NIL.

Just don't see college ball as an option for NFL guys any longer. Coaches want to coach not put up with all the crap one has to deal with in college football these days. That is the reason Saban hung it up after all.

My suspicion is that the dirty little secret in CFB is they're pumping out resumes to the NFL left and right, knowing there's a lot fewer openings there but wanting to get out before the collapse.

Except for whichever next Pat Dye can con Auburn into a bad buyout deal.

Franklin will find 9-win seasons much more tolerated at VT.

But he will also find it's tougher to do it consistently than it was when he was at Vandy, too.

Penn State (and others) will be poaching his stars left and right.
