So far on this board we have seen nothing but raves about our recruiting and denigrating remarks about Auburn's recruiting. (2009)

I have looked over the lists to date and, quite frankly, they look a lot alike. Neither could do much bragging at this time. Both have a few four stars but mostly threes.

Would someone who really knows recruiting please explain how our collection of mostly three stars is better than their collection of mostly three stars?

There was pretty good discussion of this in an earlier thread. Check it out.

This was pretty much addressed at length in several of the Auburn commit threads but here goes;
I guess at a cursory glance you could say they do look similar, however when you look deeper, you'll find that several of Auburns best commits are re-signs, the other two are looking around (Coleman & Scott) and are considered soft verbals at this point. I do expect both will stay with Auburn though.
Many of their three stars have only 1 D-1 offer, that 1 being Auburn or have offers from Wake Forest, Troy etc along with Auburn. Auburn will have a large class this year, and the bulk of it is being shaped with recruits that are not being offered by few BCS type schools. The exceptions would be Coleman, Scott and a few others. That is where the skepticism of this class is coming from.

All of Bamas commits, even the 3-stars, are highly recruited and have offers from not just D-1 schools, but other BCS schools.
There is clear break-down of all this on one of these other threads, if I can find it I'll link it.:BigA:

The main difference:
When a guy commits to Alabama, people say, "That was a good get by 'Bama."
When a guy commits to Auburn, people say, "Who?"

3-stars is such a big category right now, especially with the services trying to hold back a little on 4-stars this early ... that 3 stars may indicate anything from someone you out-dueled Southern Miss for to someone any team in the SEC would take.

3-star at this point seems to be a way of saying, "nice D-1 prospect." In other words, it covers a lot of territory. It's not hard to tell from the offer lists that the 3-stars Bama has signed far outclass the ones Auburn has. Rod Woodson is a 3-star for goodness sake, and some people think he may be the best prospect in Mississippi, or close to it.

And then there's the little matter of the 4 and 5 star guys Bama has the inside track on.

I think these quotes from Scout's article on the current top 15 in recruiting pretty well sum it up. Right now, Auburn is #15, because they have signed so many ... Bama not ranked so far.

In the "Risers" section:

And... Alabama... Take a look at the Tide's prospect list. Count the guys from the state of Alabama, then start picturing what Alabama's class is going to look like as it gets most of the guys in state it's after again. It's going to be tough to keep the Tide out of the top five.

And in the "Fallers" section:

Auburn has 18 commitments and may have peaked at #15.

That article is a little dated at this time. Bama has had a few top commits since that article. Expect Bama to be up the list and the barn to be down the list on the next team recruiting rankings.

That would be a great relief.

Thank all of you who responded/are responding on this. Living in North Carolina it is difficult to get the inside dope on happenings in Alabama. That's why I love TideFans.

Also keep in mind that 4 of our 5 biggest fish are still uncommitted at this point (Johnson, Patrick, Kelly, Kirkpatrick).

Those 4 will "tip the scales" considerably.

well put. the commitment list says more than scholarship offers. it means other schools scouts have evaluated the players talent alone side the scouts of the recruiting services of people like scout or rivals. i still feel like players with the extra stars makes everything look better though. RTR!!:BigA:

One of the other things that always got me early on that doesn't show up now and something I can't believe hasn't been mentioned in any of these comparison threads is the fact that Bama's three stars have always been ranked while it seems the barns commits are always unknowns that get courtesy rankings after the fact seemingly only because its an SEC team that accepted their commitment. Or like that barn loving bum Tom Luginbill said of Tubby that he can coach 'em up and always has recruited well so they give him bonus points for a poor class on their assumption that he has unearthed so many diamonds in the rough that every other big time coach in America somehow didn't believe were that good. :conf2::mad2:

How ? They don't :D

Cat & Sam covered it .

I also think it would be fair to say, percentage-wise, that some of the three stars we have verbals from are more likely to earn a fourth star over the next year than those committed to the barn...but it's still doesn't really matter until they show up to school, get in, make the team without getting in trouble, and beat one or two other guys out for playing time. But hey, it's a good start.

I love the comments by Scout on Alabama:

I think Mobile DE Jawarren Hector is a good example of the different type of DE/LB prospects that Auburn is pursuing this year.

Alabama DE still in limbo
Who else is involved in Jawarren's recruitment?

"UAB and Marshall have offered me, and I think Auburn is getting close to offering me too."

Did Hector attend any college camps this summer?

"No sir, I was in summer school, so I never had the time."

Well there you go, proof in the pudding :eek2:

Re: Auburn adds another commit

Wow, Ears out smarts everyone again with another unknown that should've been a 5 star. Aubbies should be so proud

Re: Auburn adds another commit

Yet another one I'll have to hear about from my barner hubby. He'll be extolling his virtues before I even get my second foot in the door this afternoon.
