Concerning Diego Pavia( AKA Johnny Manzel II IMHO ), Is a Dedicated Spy Worth The Potential Reward Vs. The Risk?

Pavia and Vandy are dangerous, but there are two things working against them this year that will be Alabama's advantage.
1. The surprise factor: We went into that game last year coming off an emotional Georgia win feeling really full of ourselves. Vandy caught us way off guard. That won't be the case this year
2. Playing us in Tuscaloosa is a whole different beast.

Our defensive scheme/alignment is the most concerning thing this game. Time and again the d gets out flanked/leveraged before the snap. So much so it’s mind boggling, not sure why uga didn’t just run outside all game and some dives to keep us honest. Vandy like last year might just go on the edge and let a good decision maker like pavia feast. Think Hubbard might need to be a spy heat seeking missile all game. Another concern is the decision making of Sabb has been rather poor so moving Hubbard as a spy could hurt the back end. Not sure who else would be a better spy making an actual impact. Think our d goes as Hubbard goes.

Unless Wommack has an enlightening and our LB's all of a sudden develop sound gap discipline, Ty Simpson and the offense better be more on in the Vandy game than they were in the UGA game, because Vandy WILL put 30+ on our defense. Thank god for Mike Bobo and Gunner Stockton not having the capacity to really make us pay for our mistakes. Pavia and the Vandy offense has the capacity to make us pay and pay often.

I would like to see some wrinkles in the scheme this coming week against Pavia; obviously he's very creative but maybe some blitzes in his face from guys like Hubbard and then some late pressure with guys like Sabb, Pavia is such a scary task considering how we have performed against other Dual Threat guys.

Hubbard as a spy is not the answer. We need to keep the safeties back. You saw what happened when Wommack kept blitzing them. Long TD in a lobbed ball down the field.

I think this is a game where a more physical safety/cb like kirkpatrick or Dijon Lee that are a little bigger and more physical could have a huge impact.

Vandy also had a bye week before and most likely prepped solely for us. Make no mistake they are improved and really good. Hoping our momentum, revenge factor and playing at home is the difference.

They might as well have had a bye week this year. They probably barely even prepared for Utah State. Would explain a lot.

Probably going to need to outscore them because I have doubts we can stop them.

I think the best defense next Saturday will be our offense. Long scoring drives eating up the clock and forcing the pressure on Vandy.
Spidey, you have some of the same thoughts as I have.
We WILL NOT overlook Vandy. We WILL NOT be surprised in that Vandy has a good team.
Add to that, the defense has something to prove and a big chip on its shoulder due to last year's fiasco.
I hope Wommack is up to the task.
If we play ball control I think we win.
Now to really answer the question. I don't think a spy is a great idea all game long but situationally and periodically it could keep Mr. Career College off schedule a bit and guessing some.
The biggest thing that needs to happen in this game is to hit him HARD and often.

Vandy doesn't have the defense UGA does. If our offense plays like they did against UGA, we'll be fine.
That's the million dollar question. Can we put together back to back solid offensive performances against SEC teams? We struggled doing that last season. Let's see if they've learned anything from last season.

I think we all know the reason why our offense sucked last year. That problem has CLEARLY been fixed. But yes, I am not going to consider Vandy an easy win anymore, and hopefully, neither will the team. After what happened last year, if we don't take them seriously, then something is truly wrong. Personally, I think we keep the intensity going.

The spread is Bama by 9.5.

We won't take them lightly this year. And playing them in BD helps. I think we take care of business and win by double-digits.

I don't think motivation/taking Vandy for granted will be an issue.
What I want to see is Kane Wommack put together a game plan that allows us to contain on the edges. I want to see keeping gap integrity. I want to see us HIT Pavia early and often and HARD.

If the team can't control the ball and dominate Vandy after being embarrassed in Nashville last year then it would seem that there are a lot of challenges ahead this season.

Yeah...that's not within him. We are going to have to be 2020 Bama from now on to beat all the remaining teams on our schedule.
