Link: Confirmed: Hightower gone for the year

"paperwasp" is gone. He registered under these email ISPs which spring up literally like weeds. His was "mintemail," which is a three-hour temporary address. IOW, he registered to cause trouble - and he did...

After watching a CBS recording of the game back on tv today I saw them give Hightower an ACL field test on the sideline on the trainer table. The Tibia moved alot. The camera cut away as he was moving to compare to the right leg, but the next shot seconds later showed him getting some bad news in his ear and he showed a "bad news" reaction. ACL prevents anterior movement of tibia from the femur. Which means probably a complete tear with someone who was hit head to knee. Will probably be able to run in straight line 4-5 months. Play football 6-8 months, so he might practice in black shirt for the spring but for sure ready to go for the summer.
We will need multiple people to step up to replace his versatility. The linebackers will shift like this last game to fill some holes, but Nico Johnson will be needed to play the run and we REALLY needed Harris to get cleared. Those two would give us a lot of athleticism and if Upshaw can become that 3 down pass rusher we may can fill this void to an extent. Injuries happen and this team has to parts to step up. I wish Dont'a the best I am sure he will have surgery this week and rehab starts a couple of hours later. He is a real good one.

I'm not sure. According to the NCAA Rules (14.2.4), you can apply for a hardship waiver and get an additional year of competition if the athlete hasn't competed in more than the greater of three games or 30 percent of the regular season schedule. 30% of a 12-game schedule is 3.6 games and the rules say you round to the next whole number or 4 games. He should be eligible.
That's up 5% from 25% when teams were playing 11 game schedules . That said , I wouldn't hold out in hope of a favorable ruling . Remember Brodie Croyle in 2004 and his 2.75 or 3 games out of 11 ? Croyle did not compete in more than 3 games just as Hightower will not compete in more than 4 games and we all know which side of the fence that ruling fell on :(

OK, TideSports and others here say it was a legal block, I still question the validity of that, when a person goes for the knee, in my opinion, it is a cheap, dirty block.

I'm as frustrated as anyone else about Hightower's injury, but the block just wasn't dirty. With two guys moving full-speed like that, it's impossible to expect someone to "aim" his block to be a few inches above or below the knee.

Bottom line, it's a violent game, and these things happen. It seems like it's a miracle that serious injuries don't happen on just about every drive.

I really hate to hear this for him. I was looking forward to see what He and Rolando could have accomplished together this year. Hope for him a speedy recovery and looking forward for his return (even if its next year:frown:)

Really hate this for Danta (or any player for that matter). Not only talented on the field, he appears to be a real classy kid as well. The future is still bright for him and our prayers will be with him.

He will be missed for sure. He was a lock-in for an All-American. Luckily we finally have depth though so maybe it won't hurt us too bad. He will be in my prayers.

Get well Hightower, and this just blows, he is one of my favorite Bama players.

I'm sure Bama nation will give you every tool to become the force you are again. We will help you reach your dreams of playing in the NFL one day, and it's just a bump in the road for now buddy, chin-up during the tough road ahead. You will be back full strength with the right care.

At Bama, we actually do care about our players well-being while at Bama & after...........

:BigA: ROLL TIDE :BigA:

I agree that it wasn't an illegal hit, but the sheer number of times Arkansas got called for crackback and chop blocks [and the other times where I think it was missed] tells me that it was gameplanned or coached. Arkansas fans can cry more about how I can't prove it but lets get serious...players don't do things technique-wise unless they are coached to do it. I think in Arkansas' case especially, the staff felt they were overmatched and tried to cut at our guys' knees to get their heads out of the game potentially to give them a chance.

I saw the same thing with the trainers working his knee and said the same thing yesterday. The good thing is I did not see any lateral movement, and although I'm still fearful, I have hope his MCL is not involved. The double-whammie is what Marvin Constant had. Let's hope he avoids that.

Sidebar: I don't believe I've ever seen anyone as "small" as Marvin Constant have the huge thighs he did, except for our fullback, Houston, a few years ago, who was a little bigger anyway.

All the best to you, Dont'a - get well. I have no doubt you'll come back next year an absolute world-beater.
