Since this is now the second year in a row it looks like Alabama will face Florida in the SEC championship game, assuming we go undefeated, and if we beat LSU sat we will jump back to #2, could Mike Slive suspend the SEC Championship Game therefore allowing Alabama and Florida to play in the BCS National Championship Game and let the winner take both the NC and the SEC title. I really don't think that it is fair to either team under these circumstances to force them to play each other and put the other one out of the NC title contention when they both could just play for the National Championship. Im not saying to get rid of the SEC Championship Game, just under these circumstances BCS # 1 and # 2 temporarly suspend the game so both team can play for the title. What are your thoughts on this, and is this even possible?

Won't happen...to much money to be made with an SECCG and tickets have already been sold except whats be allotted to the 2 participating schools.

We had a thread about this, and the net is that it would cost the conference money (millions) and there are already sponsorship and venue contracts in place that would preclude a cancelation...

No way this happens. Too much sponsor money already committed.

Also, if he cancels the game to get an all SEC BCSCG, Texas could very well jump one of the SEC teams if they win the Big 12 title game and they are undefeated. Then Slive has screwed his conference out of the title game money for nothing.

IMO, this is sissy talk. Man up. Play anyone, anytime, anyplace and let the best men win.

I agree. I also believe it's really unfair to have 2 teams from one conference play for the title--not enough common opponents nationally for a conference to be so clearly distinguished. Sometimes teams lose games bc their conferences are tough, not because the team is weak.

I wish we would quit thinking that us beating LSU, Miss. St, and Auburn are forgone conclusions...lets win this weekend and then we will (maybe) start talking about the SEC Championship Game!

Why would you even want to see this happen? In my opinion, with the way most conferences are set up now, no team deserves the MNC unless they've won their conference.

agree 100%, at the end of the day I want to be #1 because we BEAT the best not gimmicked our way into a MNC. We were close last year, lets see if Saban has the boys ready for round 2.

I don't see that happening either. I think the pollsters would punish one or both teams for shenanigans like that. Plus, LSU will need the re-match against Florida to be able to hopefully vault themselves into the top 2 - I don't see them already being in the top 2 without winning the SECCG.

;)

Here's a scenario that also isn't going to happen, but possibly should - let's assume that Bama and Florida are both undefeated and play for the SECCG, and it turns out to be a classic - lots of great football on both sides, St. Tebow cures a handicapped child during halftime, and finally in quadruple overtime Ingram converts a 2-point conversion that Tebow cannot match, giving Bama the victory. I would think that some voters would want to see a rematch, rather than watch another likely SEC victory over a Big Ten or Big East team. Not enough to keep Bama and Florida in the top 2, but it should be possible, as long as they refuse to implement a rule that forces a team to win their own conference title in order to play for the NC.
