Question: Could the team have just simply looked past USF?

Mac and Cube this morning indicated that there might be some dissent in the locker room as to the benching of the former QB1. They said that he didn't react well and it rubbed off. That is why he didn't go in the game Sat.
McClellan’ half hearted block attempt signaled some players sacrificing the team for their own agendas. Proud of Saban sitting him the rest of the game. And that is what it takes. Saban has to address that this week. Get it out in the open and let those players know who is in charge.

I hope so. I wonder what the leadership is like on this team.

I wonder about this too. The sideline reporter during the game said she didn't see any Bama players yelling and keeping their teammates in line. Someone has to step up and be Rolando or AJ to the younger guys on the team. I'm hoping someone is going to find that within themselves in the next few games. Jacob Coker wasn't that guy when the 2015 season started, but he became that guy during the Ole Miss game.

Do you happen to remember our 2000 season? We were absolutely loaded, minus of course, Shawn Alexander. We were preseason #3 and we opened the year getting clobbered by a UCLA team we were hands down better than. Well, on paper, anyway. We went from preseason #3 to finishing 3-8. Granted, that was a different time. But still, this team (like the 2000 team) is way too talented to be looking like this

I was a student at Alabama during that infamous 2000 season. Dustin McClintock used to come over and hang out with me and my friends often. A friend once asked him, "doesn't the team have a workout session right now? Aren't you supposed to be there?" Dustin said that Coach Dubose never knows who is there and who isn't because he isn't there himself. I was really concerned at that point. Later in the fall, I saw the results of that lax attitude.

Not imo - ime that attitude trickles down from the top. We cannot expect ferocity when 'grandpa' Saban is on the sidelines instead of fire-breathing Saban.

Y'all keep referring to 'soft generation' - maybe, maybe not. I don't think there's any coincidence that the 'kinder gentler' Saban came along about the same time we started hearing about players having anxiety and such.

I'll say this much - if this is how Bama plays going forward, NIL and the transfer portal destroying CFB won't make a difference, as I've zero interest in watching highly talented players fold emotionally and physically.

And note - this is not blaming the players, these attitudes and emotions have been allowed to exist. Possibly even fostered. They would not have been allowed 10 years ago - Saban is the only constant. He's created this mess and now we have to see if he can fix it.

UGA's players are in the same generation and they play like the Bama of old. So, it's not the new generation. I think you're right, Coach Saban has taken on a new kinder mentality. I hope he realizes he needs to go back to the firebreathing Saban soon.

A few years ago I would have agreed. Teams still get up to play us, but the mystic of facing Alabama is gone. Maybe we get it back. Maybe we don't. 3 games into the season and I am not confident it will happen this year. I think the consistant turn over in coaching staff has finally caught up with us.
Agree to disagree then. We may have started the season shaky but beating Alabama is a big deal. We do not lose very often and the path to an SEC Championship normally goes through Tuscaloosa. The aura may have faded for some upset Tide fans but the rest of the college football world measures themselves by playing us.

Maybe, hopefully... ‘ Every player on the field that day played in the NFL, and we couldn't stop them, like through tin horn. ‘

I was watching Bill O’Briens offense in New England. They have some issues, but, it looked nothing like at Alabama. The stack routes were layered instead of everyone running to the same spot , and when the defense went to a quarters zone, he had the slot guys running deep outs and the outside guys running crossing routes with the back , if he was not in pass pro doing a shallow drag . It was a thing of beauty. It was almost as if he understood how to attack a defense. If they ran those concepts with Bryce , he woukd have passed for 600 yards and 7 TDs a game. Anyway. My question. Is Tommy Rees the opposite but the same as Major Applewhite?

Kirby is only 47 so maybe that puts him in a better position to communicate with/motivate the players of today.

I've heard the argument before that a younger person can better relate to younger people. This argument is made with coaches, therapists, teachers, etc. I haven't found that to be the case, personally. I was a therapist at a boy's home in 2019; I worked with boys aged 12 to 18 who had behavioral problems after being removed from their homes by DHR. I was 38 years old and I knew nothing of their world, but I was able to relate to them quite well by being authentic and not pretending to be on their level. They appreciated that I was myself and I was willing to listen to them and learn about who they were. You can relate to a young person regardless of your age as long as you are willing to be authentic and really listen to these young people.

That is a great example. Maybe Ty does that with his start this weekend. Presuming he gets his shot.
