Crazy game, but still the worst D

Maybe the truth is, is Kirby WAS the other half of the success and Saban has to find that replacement.
It's been painfully obvious since he left for Jawja.

People talk about recruiting misses w/r/t competition in our region and nationally for recruits but we signed two 5-star edge guys in the last two seasons and both were gone before the season started (Anoma and Alfano). They shrunk under competition or expectations. Could've used that kind of athlete on the field in November but enabling bad behavior is a worse poison than bad scheme.

We've just kinda had a bunch of bad luck in recruiting. Seems like we've had a higher-than-normal group of guys who are injury prone. Can't predict that stuff. We've also had a lot more of quick defections because bad personality fit to the program. Gotta wonder what affect coaching turnover had on that too. Kids who don't like their new assistant. Kids who got here sold one thing by their primary recruiter then discovering another reality when they actually got to campus. When we're changing guys all the time, the marketing material is bound to get a bit jumbled.

I agree that there are a lot of variables that led to this season. It unfortunately happens. It's all ebbs and flows. The key is to keep focus and execution on being a championship winning program ... which I have no doubt CNS will do.

I dont think Muschamp as the DC is the answer either.

I don't think it scheme at all. I think he wants to keep 3 DL to play gap control and 2LBs that can slide down and mimic DEs if needed with 1 LB that can stay clean and spy the QB or play run gap. The DBs then have to play man. The only problem is if a OL gets to the 2nd level to block your LB you have a long run.

It doesn't matter what alignment you have, you have to get pressure on the QB with 4-5 because the precision passing and timing routes have changed the game. Our DBs have to get more aggressive at the LOS to disrupt this approach.

We have gone too light imo on the DL to a degree and possibly on LB too.

I'm not sure there was a choice. Heavier also generally means slower...

I haven't seen 1 thing in 2 seasons that would indicate or tell me that Pete is the answer.
Probably, cause he's not.

🤷

See the product?

Heck even Tosh was better.
At least he could recruit and coach up.

Not sure what you're laughing about but Tosh Lupoi was a outstanding recruiter and capable on field coach.
Probably wasn't the answer here either as Saban saw but his credentials are solid....

He was here for that reason primarily (and I'm not speculating). But let's not have revisionist history. People were ready to run him off last season, and gladly welcomed Golding taking over the play calling midway through the season last year.

I'm honest.
I was too..

Lol!!!!!!!

Why I said "probably not the answer here."

He's at Cleveland I think.
Defensive line coach.

They kinda suck..
Lol

Defense...I think our defensive ends and Defensive backs both had poor games against Auburn. But my point here zeros in on the Corner Backs. I have been disappointed with Alabama’s CB performance for a long time. Don’t get me wrong, we have had great CBs but I think the system we play and style that is coached has problems with modern day passing attacks. The back shoulder throws , throws across the middle, and “go deep and throw the ball to the receiver if the Alabama DB has his back to you” plays have killed us for years. I am still wandering how Dre could be selected in the first round and say he didn’t learn how to back pedal until he got to the NFL because he never back pedaled in College? If they are back pedaling in the NFL but not at Bama, I think it’s a problem with our coverages. I see NFL defensive backfields mix zone and man, but I can not recall Alabama CBs every playing zone? What has been burned into my memory is our CBs running downfield with their backs to the QBs and flailing at balls just before reception; Clemson, Ole Miss, and Auburn had huge success against us with this tactic. Please don’t respond with a description of being “in phase” as I have grown to despise that term because all the term has meant over the years is a once and a while deflection of the ball at the last second....I’d rather see our CBs going up to high point balls thrown deep.

And how on earth could Auburn line 3 receivers up to the right on the post TD go for 2 play, and it took us seconds to get 3 defenders out wide with 2 up and 1 deep? They all ran short routes across the goal line and the middle receiver had no one even close to him for an easy and uncontested throw? I don’t think you would see that defense even in intramural flag football on the quad?

Sure as heck doesn't say "is" that's hilarious.
I went and looked as well.
😂

No not at all.
He coached admirably while he was here which wasn't long.
I'd love to still have him.

He might've been that replacement for Kirby.

He's at UcheaT now.
His defenses outperformed Kirbs against the modern style offenses.

He was the answer and frankly left too soon for a dead end job. But he’s so good he may yet make it work out.

I wanted Lake and was never excited about Golding since he practically ran the defense from mid season on.

Pick up the phone call Charlie Strong??????????

👍👍👍

That seems like a good fit, I mean, if you can coach under Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier you can under Saban.
