Croyle Optimistic About Offense

That sounds good, especially that Brodie checked in at 6-2 1/2 and 206 lbs. It would be even better if he could add a little more muscle before the season.

206? Yeah, right.

Besides the fact that Brodie reports his health as "good" the following also is some very good news:

Croyle said that when the receivers ran the 40-yard dash recently, only Zeke Knight (at 6-4, 230 pounds) exceeded the 4.5 mark, and he ran just above a 4.5.

I know...

a lot of people scratching their heads over it, because it was done at Pro Day, so it was done by neutral folks. The puzzle is that he looks so much smaller than JPW when they're standing side by side - and I know he weighed in during rehab at 170. I hope it's true; he'll need every pound. Maybe JPW is much bigger than advertised... :D

206 would be nice come fall; but, 206 or not, the most positive thing I took from that article is that somebody (Croyle or someone else) apparently has taken a leadership position on the team and is making sure everyone is participating in off-season pass-skel workouts.

Someone closer to campus may be able to confirm this; but it sounds to me like we have some leadership emerging, which is always encouraging.

The speed of the receivers sounds encouraging as well. We will need it.

Discipline, strength, speed and leadership will all go a long ways this fall. Especially in the 4th quarter.

He was measured...

at that by the pros, so it's got to be accurate, although it's still hard to square his size next to some of the other players. A lot of late-maturing kids add a inch or so of height in the 20-22 year old bracket.

I don't know where some of you get your information, but...

I spent this past Monday with John and Brodie (they attended the Shelby County Alumni Chapter Golf Tournament) and there is no doubt to me that he is at or just above the 200 pound mark. He was in shorts and a golf shirt and it was the first time that I've stood near him and talked to him where he actually looked bigger than at any time in the past. He still has really small knees and bird legs, but his upper body and frame looked as though he had without question added muscle and mass.

He's probably...

not using squats at all. Likely he using the leg sled. After ACL recon, you are limited to half-squats anyway (at least, I was). The leg sled doesn't utilize all the muscle groups that a squat does, but it's safer for a graft. On the plus side, you can really load the quads a bit more. At the conclusion of my formal rehab, I could press 1000 on the leg sled. I only half-squat 250. I actually looked at purchasing the sled, but ran out of room. In my little weight room, I have a fold-up treadmill, squat rack with upper and lower pulleys, a swing arm ab and back machine and a double station weight stack machine. No room for a leg sled and if I over-flowed the weight room, my wife would be after my hide... :D

Good point! Not that he's really had a chance to

He probably hasn't hit the squat rack to hard yet. Torn ACL's make it very difficult to keep those legs in shape.

ever hit the squat rack since HS. I just want to see how good he can really be playing a full season without injury! There is no doubt in my mind that Brodie can and will be a force if kept healthy.

Little weight room, that's more equipment than some gyms. I guess little is relative.
