Danny Sheridan on Finebaum Today about AU case

The NCAA doesn't have to get any confirmation from the bagman or the Newtons. I'm pretty confident the NCAA has enough justification in their collective minds to do whatever they want to Auburn. The fact that Auburn has been thumbing their noses at the NCAA during the entire process concerns me. I hope they don't have the NCAA in their pockets too.

What, like USC did? :)

Some of you are on the right track. The NCAA does not need proof beyond a reasonable doubt to render the punishment akin to a guilty verdict.

Agreed, but without some statement from the person who actually transferred the cash they won't even have a preponderance of the evidence. That's the reason I'm skeptical of anything ever coming out of this investigation. The people who paid off Cecil Newton were at least slick enough to avoid leaving records by paying in cash and using a third party for the actual transfer.

I agree 100%... However, they don't want a repeat of getting sued outside of their juristiction.. Like they did with UA a few years back.. It sounds as though they are looking for more facts to cover their pocket books if a lawsuit ever comes up...

Of course this assumes there is anything against the rules for them to find or “Make Up”.

This was my first thought. However, once a civil suit is filed, attorneys have subpoena power and individuals will have to testify under oath in a court of law. I doubt anyone involved in Auburn recruiting wants any part of that.

I'm sure that this has been discussed somewhere or maybe even in the megathread. I would think that the IRS would have a huge interest in collecting the taxes on the $180 - $200 K allegedly paid to Cecil. Wouldn't they (IRS) have the right and power to audit Cecil's and the church's bank accounts to see what's been going on over the past year or so?

I was listening to the Finebaum replay coming to work this AM, and there was this guy I forget his name, but he was the one talking about the Barn being under dogs in 7 of their games. He said they WOULD have a 9 win season. I am not sure I see that happening

It was Danny Sheridan and he did not say they WOULD have a 9-win season. He said that based on their recent recruiting, the Auburn coaching staff is doing a poor job of coaching and developing players if they win fewer than 9 games this season.

I'm not overly excited about this in terms of "oooh, it's gonna happen big and it's gonna happen soon!" Instead, I find the cockles of my heart warmed that we've had two "in-the-know" peeps (Sheridan and that NCAA lady whose name escapes me) recently confirm, in a nationally disseminated way, that the NCAA Auburn investigation does continue.

You and I have known it for nearly a year, while the barners persist in denying it. It's so nice to see them collectively slapped. Just makes me smile. :)

And you with an AU fan husband....I'll watch my wife squirm a little from it too!:rolleye2:

I would really love to see the Barn get slapped around for this, but I don't think its going to happen UNLESS something forces their hand like evidence of money laundering or tax evasion comes to light that gets somebody with real power involved. Remember, the NCAA did their best to ignore the Reggie Bush situation UNTIL the agent filed his lawsuit. If the evidence against Reggie Bush would not have come to light during that civil suit, I think Bush would still have his Heisman, Carroll is still at USC and Tennessee would be facing even more severe sanctions with Kiffin's continued presence in K'ville.

There is a lot more at play than just the Cam Newton scandal. auburn is up to their armpit with some shady and unethical practices that will eventaully get them hung.

The NCAA has more than enough right now to nail Auburn on several things: the Cam issue, the HBO Four, Thibideaux kids, Cyrus Kouandjio and Brent Calloway's recruitment, Tiger Prowl. Tigerettes possibly. The NCAA dosen't look into a program like Auburn for 10 months, investing time and resources, and not find SOMETHING major. Sorry boog lurkers, that's fact.
