DE Chris Jones Updates (Miss. State Commitment)

Re: Chris Jones-DLineman

#MSU commitment Chris Jones told me moments ago he has yet to decide it he will take any other visits. Will talk with family about it.

A HS coach in Miss. had this to say this afternoon:

"Jones entire football H.S. football staff are msu fans They have sheltered him from schools outside msu. He not allowed to flip."

That's big.

It could also be that like a lot of coaches, they want their players to stick to their commitments.

Perennial SEC door mat vs. Alabama? I think people would understand. I imagine the same coach would've cautioned him against committing too soon.

Never said the kid was on the take, but if you think high school coaches are above steering kids or manipulating them for personal benefit then scoot over, i want to live under that rock with you.

Funny, when the coaches are steering them to us, nobody really complains.

It is definitely a door that swings both ways that has helped or hurt us with kids. That's why it's on the kid and his parents to do what is best for the kid. If I had a kid getting all these calls and scholly offers, I wouldn't want the coach handling any part of it...it would go through family.

It seems you're missing the point. These coaches aren't steering him to MSU like coaches have steered players to Bama. It's one thing for a coach to say "At Alabama, I think you can do ____, and at this school, I see you doing this _____. Knowing you, I think you would rather do how Saban would use you." These coaches are reportedly not doing that. They aren't even letting the other schools touch the kid. Just so happens, these coaches are all fans of the school he is committed to.

I have no doubt MSU will be successful in keeping this guy. It's hard to get to a kid that has his whole high school working to shelter him from anyone but MSU. I don't know what his family situation is...but I suppose an in-home visit by Saban is probably the only good shot.

With all due respect, I don't think I am. How do we know any of this is actually going on, just because somebody tweets it? If so, we'll find all sorts of accusations that high school coaches are in our pockets, starting with Foley High. And before that it was Hoover and before that it was Prattville and before that it was all the Mobile schools. Georgia fans were sure Nkemdiche was coming to us because everybody knows Mickey Conn was on the take.

I suggest we let the conspiracy theories compost on ITAT. When we start throwing them around, based on a tweet, the distance between us and them shortens a bit. Mr. Jones is from Mississippi. He committed early to MSU. Was he steered there? Maybe. Or maybe he's an instate kid who wants to play closer to home. Never heard that one before.

No, it is just sad that no adult he's surrounded by will let him explore his options to find the best fit.

Yes that is sad. As a coach myself I could NEVER do anything like that. We always try to shop our players (the right way of course) to any and every school possible. The only way I would try to steer a kid away from a school is if I knew "for sure" the staff did not back up their word and that would be something I would have to hear to see myself. I've even heard of coaches not telling their kids during football season that colleges had tried to contact them, and to me that is just lowdown as well.

I think we're going to get him, coaches aside, he is reconsidering his commitment and bama is knocking on the door hat not to make at least a visit. There is a clear difference in the programs and the opportunity may be too good to pass up.
