Re: Shula Gone

That's what I was afraid of. I don't know if I'm in the minority here, but I'd rather be stuck with Shula for another season than go through the circus of courting head coaches and coming up with another inexperienced, unqualified wannabe.

Re: Shula Gone

Considering the timing of the news I would think that we have our man, I just do not know who that man is.
I concur. My thinking exactly. We have someone...otherwise I don' think he'd be gone yet...if that is the case.

I'm still holding my breath for some better confirmation, call me cynical after the last week.

No offense Crimson-Blitz :)

Re: Shula Gone

Well, maybe we'll know tomorrow. Maybe not. Maybe ABC got bogus news. Who knows? We'll have to wait until tomorrow, maybe longer, to know for sure. I think firing Shula is a mistake...but ABC did just report it again, and that assistant coaches have been summoned back to UA that were on recruiting duty.

Let's hope so. I'm wondering when they'll name his replacement. And if said replacement is already in Tuscaloosa.

Re: Shula Gone

That would be bold...if the replacement was in Tuscaloosa.

I really feel like we've given Shula the shaft here. I firmly believe it wasn't all his fault. Not his fault Chris Capps couldn't block for JPW. And Shula was such a great guy, and had proven in 05 what he could do with great talent.

I am 100% sure that the news of Shula's firing is true.

I have no idea if we have a new coach. I think we probably do considering the timing of the announcement.

I agree that we've given him the shaft. I think that there were ways that the entire situation could have been handled differently. Bama fans and the administration complained about the way fRan left. But, the way that the BOT, MM and RW treated Shula, do they really have any room to talk?

It wasn't all his fault, but the fault always lies with the Head Coach. It was Shula's fault that Capps was on the field...even after he proved he wasn't capable of blocking. Because Shula was the Head Coach and OC, it was his fault that our offense couldn't score (this year wasn't the first year that Alabama couldn't punch it in under his leadership). In '05, Shula proved what he could do with an outstanding defense that would make up for his mediocre offense.

You are right in one respect...Shula is a good guy. He took over a program in turmoil and brought some stability. We should be thankful for what he provided this program. Now is the time to take the next step...with a new coaching staff.

Re: Shula Gone

Hes a victim of his own success in 05.Bama fans expect the world, thats just the way it is.After wins over UF,UT and TT in the Cotton Bowl,we were''Back''.Even if it was 2-3 years before schedule. It didnt matter who the coach was you could see this coming in 06.Maybe he was given the shaft. But Bama wouldnt be so stupid to fire Shula without a greater replacement, would they?

Re: Shula Gone

Yeah, he brought stability.

But look at the program after fRan left. Look at it after Dubose left. My point is, I think firing a coach like this doesn't help the team as much as it might hurt it. This might mean that'll it'll be a couple or three more years before we turn into a decent team, just adjusting to coaches and possibly new styles of play for our team. I worry about this. . .and I hope they've already got his replacement, since they saw fit to fire him at close to midnight.
