While I like Chris Stewart doing both basketball and the football postgame show, there is just something about Eli calling a football game. Maybe I am just used to it but I enjoy his calling of the game. I do agree that if he ever decides to leave our broadcast, Chris would make a great replacement. I met Chris at an alumni function and my wife and I talked with him for quite a while. He had some great stories about some of the callers to the post game show.

I don't think anybody is trying to "tear down the staff."

I like Eli Gold and I hope he stays as long as he wants to. It's very comforting the first time I hear his voice at the beginning of each fall.

I've always liked Chris Stewart. If Eli retires or leaves then I say than Bama shouldn't have to look very far to find his replacement.

I like Eli Gold, and always have. He is my John Forney.

I realize John Forney was the greatest, but I wasn't born while he was the voice of Alabama football.

But as far as Chris Stewart replacing Eli, I have a question for anyone who would know.

While listening to Eli's show last year on WJOX, he stated that the reason he no longer did the basketball games is because Coach Gottfried wanted an announcer separate from football because the football season ran into the basketball season. This meant that Eli would miss some basketball games.

So, if we all want Chris Stewart to do football, wouldn't that mean he'd have to give up basketball?

Maybe I have imagined hearing that.

I think it heard it also, but Eli did mention his work schedule and Bama Football is top priority over anysport. :D

I truly enjoy the way Eli Gold calls the football games. I've grown up listening to Eli Gold and I hope he sticks around for a long time. To me, it just doesn't get much better than hearing Eli's elated voice when Bama pulls off a big win.

I really like Eli. I really dont know why some people have an issue with him. I have been going to games since 1979 and he has been the announcer for most of that time (since 1988 I think).

I like the way he gets excited on the big plays, he sounds like a fan calling the game.

To me, someone who never heard Forney, there is nothing that reminds me of Alabama football any more than turning on the radio and hearing "This is Eeeeli Gold here...." I don't know much about the X's and O's of the game and that's why I like his style. I can see how you might not like it if you're a football player (or were one) but with Eli I always feel like I'm right there in the stadium.

Eli is one of the most recognized and respected voices in radio. He adds a color to the games, an I hope he stays for a long long time. He and Kenny are just another thing that makes gameday at the Capstone what it is.

That said, DOWN and DISTANCE, Eli, DOWN and DISTANCE. :biggrin2: :biggrin2:

Love...

Eli Gold's broadcasts. Now KS... that's another story entirely. As great of a player as he was, I can't stand his color commentary. Like many former QB's, most of his comments lack real insight. Would like to see UA move to a more knowledgeable color guy. Who? Don't ask me... Snake might be as good as we can find.

I like Eli and Kenny and think they do a great job. I also thoroughly enjoy the post game show with Chris Stewart on the drive back. . .except for some IDIOT callers. Geesh!

I think as a fan for any team you want to keep hearing how much time is left and what down it is and how far to go. . .those things need to come quickly when you are on the edge of your seat.

how old are you darling? I imagine under 40 and then some. To me, Stabler (over the last decade) sounds as though he is in extreme emotional pain during the broadcast. Those of us that grew up with CPB and John Forney appreciate that honesty and feel his pain . Let's face it, Alabama Football as we know it, has not been in existence since '92! When I'm dying in the stands, KS is dying in the booth.
I can't imagine who could be as Alabama as Kenny Stabler.
