I had never heard Chris Spielmann call a game before tonight. If I never hear him again it would be to soon. Telling us how USM was dominating the LOS when they had 5 yds rushing at the time was just one example. He just seemed to go out of his way to talk about what a great job USM was doing when statistically they were being shut down. Two miscues (Int and Punt return) lead to 14 pts.

I really think that he was talking about the USM run defense. I didn't think that he was that bad of color analyst.

ESPN does a horrible job almost everytime. Did anybody see the VT - NCST game where they showed Mike Vick's reaction to every play? When the game was close at the end, they went away from the game to show him leaving the stadium. They also made Marcus Vick out to be some "football God".

I guess those things didn't bother me as much as them trying to get people sympathetic towards So. Miss as a "homeless" football team.

The rest I sort of overlook as part of the PR process for certain teams and players in the "national" spotlight. Sure Notre Dame is going to get the spotlight because they are a "traditional" powerhouse with a new coach. Sure Vick is going to get his time because of his brother and the Heisman race.

We will be back in the spotlight in a few years.

and he kept saying brodie croyles

There's just no excuse for that. He shouldn't be in the business if he's not gonna do his homework better than that. You could almost forgive him if it were a 3rd stringer buried on the bench, but to not know the starting QB's name is not excuseable. He was obviously not prepared.

Most of the time I'm not sure

announcers are watching the same game that I'm watching and if they are they certainly haven't done their "homework". The team last night also called the kicker - Jamie Christensen, "Christian" a couple of times. I try to not get to up in the air about it, all of them are pretty well pitiful to me.

No excuse because his name is written on the back of his jersey!

you have to remember chris up to now was a color man with pam ward on espn2 previously, and now he is doing color with mike jones who was a play by play man for basketball. we get all the good ones.

Except for the many "Croyles" miscues, I actually enjoyed those guys. I thought they really brought some fun into the booth with them. When the sprinklers came on, they had some pretty good one-liners.

I'd have to agree with Vertical, and floribama, on this one. Spielman was hilarious, and showed a pretty good knowledge of the game. We could have done a lot worse.

Nevertheless, as TommyMac pointed out, there is simply NO EXCUSE for getting Brodie's name wrong. Anybody who has EVER been in the business of reporting knows that the unbreakable rule is to get the names right!
He got it wrong, and he continued to get it wrong all night. Bush League! :mad2:

Regardless, they were still better than the JP crew. I wanted to watch the AU-MSU game yesterday but couldn't force myself to listen to Dave Rowe.

I liked Speilman's cracks about the greek section. It took me back a few years when I was a pledge and that was me, but it was in the swealtering heat though. Nothing like being at an 11:30 game wearing a navy blazer and khaki's! I wish there were some night games when I pledged

Who is Brodie Croyles?

Personally, I believe Spielman is an idiot. A couple of other "Spielman's"....."That's an MA, that's an MA, MA!!" Everyone, including myself was wondering what in the world as MA was......he finally explained an MA to be a Missed Assignment. Thanks Chris. Also, "GT, GT!" Did everyone understand a GT to be a Guard and Tackle? What an idiot!

Now, his partner, on the other hand pulled off a few good ones including "4th and Birmingham" which was hilarious but my favorite was after a nifty 10 yd. Prothro run......."Don't hate the magician, just love his magic." I might have to make that my new sig!
