Alabama: Fall Practice Reports

Don't know if reported here; but just saw this.
BREAKING: Alabama CB Jorden Edmonds will miss at least a few weeks after suffering a lower body injury.
The former 5-star suffered the injury during practice earlier this week, not during the scrimmage yesterday.

Spoke with a friend this morning. Old dude like me. Former player under Coach Bryant. He didn’t attend the scrimmage but had several former teammates and friends in attendance.

He said pretty much what has been parroted here. Russell looks to be ahead but it means little at this point. Overall the defense is well ahead which is to be expected. And while the Oline had its issues, you never know what that means this early in fall practices. As a former oline guy himself he said they got their butt whipped regularly in scrimmages not because they were terrible or the defense was elite. Many times it was because the defense was familiar with your tendencies.

He said the bottom line is “don’t read too much into a scrimmage, particularly the first one of the fall”.

You mean we can't overreact? That is a big ask pal lol.

Edmonds was not expected to break through the rotation at CB, its's stacked, but his time will come. a few weeks is great news!

I'm not sure some of our fanbase knows how to act if it's not an overreact. This'll be new territory...
Don’t you tell me how to act, you four-eyed sunshine pumper wearing crimson glasses!!! I’ll act however I “&)$!? well please. I’m a fan. It’s their job to make me happy……not my job to help them do that.

Seriously, some of our fans would rather curse the darkness than light a candle.

I read that AK Dear is having an ankle procedure today and will miss about 8 weeks. Hope he can stay injury free after this unfortunate injury. We need to stay healthy as possible on offense.
So we're looking at maybe Georgia at the earliest. And then he probably won't be the same AK Dear for a few weeks after. We really gotta hope that Traeshawn Brown is as good as we've been hearing. I know a few players were asked and said that Brown was the best player on the entire offense in the spring, so hopefully he can be that guy in the season.

I demand my constitutional right to panic! Hah! But true... It would be much worse news if the OL had thrashed the DL yesterday. And under Saban the D always dominated early on.

Downsides... Lots of new guys on offense. OL and RB need to step it up and the younger and probably more talented RBs are banged up. Positives, we should have a solid QB either way and Brown is turning some heads. WR is very good, but we don't need to lose another starter and hopefully Rogers will be able to get started back up soon.

Defense... I think positive. I think we have better size and overall talent on the DL. Payne never had a high motor and while I would love to have Keenan back and his size for some packages, we have several big dudes who have better burst coming in this year. LB has some very good guys and I hope we play 3-5 dudes there. Our secondary... Welp... They are probably the best unit in DI ball and are superb. Before we all say "it isn't Saban's defense..." Even his defenses the last few years showed weaknesses to some of the high octane offenses we see these days.

I thought when a player had the tightrope they could play alot sooner. IIRC, QBs can play in a couple of weeks. I know a running back is a different position, but 8 weeks sounds like a long time for tightrope.
The tightrope procedure does speed up the healing process. And players in many cases can return to the field earlier. The issue is primarily for the players that depend on a lot of “cutting” and lateral movement. That cutting places a lot of stress on those medial and lateral ankle ligaments. You would prefer a player like a running back to get close to 100% before you begin stressing that ankle too much.

Yeah this is only good news in the context of it not being an outright season ending injury.

Tua had the tightrope procedure in 2018 after the SECCG and he played in the Semi and NCG and was visibly limited for those final 5 weeks of the season. I’m not sure when he got back to 100%.

If Dear can get back to 100% if probably wouldn’t be until late Oct to Early November.

That’s a lot of missed time and probably a lot of rust to shake off.

We really do seem to be snake bit every fall camp. I’m sure it’s the same every year but it sure does feel like it happens more under KD
