My grandfather would tell everyone that no one was ever as dominant at WR as Don HutsonJulio says hello!
We've had some truly great WRs recently. who the best are would be an amazing debate over a few beers.

Ruggs probably had the highest TD reception to Total Reception ratio of any of our WRs.
I remember they used to play rock/paper/scissors to see who got to be the primary receiver. Then an espn camera caught them doing it and I think Saban put a stop to it.He scored 0.59 TDs per game at 17.5 YPC
He was Dynamic too.
Keep in mind I’m nerfing the Rideouts stats a bit too on scoring because a lot of appearances that 1st season were garbage time.
Smitty, Jeudy, Waddle, and Ruggs were all threats to score on any single touch or a threat to get WIDE OPEN on any given route.
There will never be a WR room like that in CFB ever again.
Is anyone in doubt that Russell will be the starter? At least, that is what I have assumed would be the eventual call since the end of last season. With the second scrimmage on Thursday I think we can expect a starting QB named by Friday or Saturday. I think that was kind of what Grubb was suggesting with his comments yesterday.
That seems to be the theory of some of the media/SM types. Is anyone in doubt that Russell will be the starter? At least, that is what I have assumed would be the eventual call since the end of last season.
Lots of great production on that list but there have been dudes throughout Tide history that could qualify for such a list. I remember a guy that wore #2 that was a pretty good receiver...and QB...and RB...and just about the best playmaker anyone has ever seen as an example.Waddle, Julio, Ridley, Jeudy were all great WRs for us, but I agree with tusks that Cooper and Smith were on a different level.
I have said this before, but I argue (and I don't really think there is a good rebuttal) that Smith is the most accomplished receiver in college football history, and in my opinion the greatest. Fitzgerald and Moss were more physically dominating, but lacked the moments of greatness in big moments and didn't win the Heisman. There are others that have more gaudy stats than Smith, but don't have the hardware and championships. No one besides Smith has the combination of stats, awards, championships, and huge plays in championship games.
God love Tyrone Prothro. That kid was something special. My grandfather would tell everyone that no one was ever as dominant at WR as Don Hutson

Fair points all around.I don’t doubt it’s eventually going to happen.
I’m just not sure it won’t be Mack in Game 1 for off the field reasons plus it being somewhat close still in practice and scrimmages.
I watched a Top 15 NFL Draft pick sit the bench for an entire year while the other guy threw the ball into the dirt, off WRs butts, over WRs heads, into the other teams hands repeatedly and no move was made.
Here we have a guy for more positive and non nefarious reasons followed CKD cross country and stuck around and kept his head down and worked hard and has himself in a competition this late.
I’ll just be surprised if Mack doesn’t get a legitimate shot in a real game that he starts to show he’s a gamer.
Maybe KR outplays him at some point anyway.
I don’t think it’s the end of the world for the competition to go on for a bit into the 1st 2-3 games with both guys playing a lot.
KR is not going to rent a u-haul in 2 weeks if he isn’t named QB1 immediately.
I’ve never been less on pins and needles over a QB competition myself.

Wow, about to get going. Will probably hear some things around lunch!
I would like to hear about some rushing TD'sWow, about to get going. Will probably hear some things around lunch!
Single best catch since I’ve been watching Alabama football ( 1958 ).God love Tyrone Prothro. That kid was something special.
Chris Low and Pete Nakos predict Keelon will be named the starter. They have good sources of course. Supposedly someone on another site is there at the scrimmage and said Keelon took the 1st snap with the 1's and that the offense looks really good.Wow, about to get going. This felt inevitable. Should be an exciting season with him at QBChris Low and Pete Nakos predict Keelon will be named the starter. They have good sources of course. Prothro was a 3 star in-state kid who didn't have any fanfare when he committed and he certainly didn't get any media hype like the Rideouts in today's social media platform. But he was a tough, hard nose WR who blocked well and went after contested catches. His epic catch will forever be memorialized in Crimson lore!God love Tyrone Prothro. That kid was something special.
